Seeking a new Desktop for This and Going Rogue...

I know this is sort of semi-on topic for this forums, but I am getting tired of my old 2006 Compaq Presario. I'd like to leave it to offline tasks and buy an online gaming PC. Issue is, I am not PC savvy about if I should build or by pre-made.

I am not into PC gaming much, I'd merely want something that runs Portal, my old Myst games and City of Heroes... hell, I'd want it to be able to run Going Rogue but sadly no system requirements are out yet.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me buying a new PC with the soul purpose of running City of Heroes flawlessly [Although lagging during raids I don't mind] and hopefully Going Rogue? Thank you in advance.

Also I'd like it for the internet of course, videos and Photoshop work, heh.

Well, Positron posted some video card specs for GR here:

Regarding build your own versus pre-made. I generally advocate building your own simply because it makes it easier to do incremental upgrades as and when you need to (or when things are on sale at your local stores). Some pre-built computers have non-standard board shapes and case designs which limit your upgrade options (Dell does this on at least some of their machines).

Building your own computer is actually pretty easy, it can seem intimidating at first if you aren't tech savvy but there are a lot of tutorials online to help you (sorry, no links at the moment) and once you've know how to do it it makes upgrading your computer in the future a lot less onerous.

EDIT: Just as a personal anecdote, I've had the same computer for close to a decade now. I've replaced every component at least once (most of them more than that) but I've never had to go out and buy a completely new computer. This means that I've generally been able to pick up upgrades when I can get them on sale rather than needing to pay the BUY IT NAO price. Amusingly I've even replaced the case so it doesn't even look the same externally, but to me it's still the same computer .

My best advice (and I work in PC retail) is to get as stable a "platform" as possible first. If it's an Emachine, Packard Bell, whatever name you go for it doesnt matter, so long as it has a decent Motherboard and CPU in it. Most local repair shops, PC world's etc should be able to fit a graphics card and memory, or they can be home fitted.

Gaming PC's can easily be £900 whereas a moderate system, £350, add on an extra £200 for graphics card, maybe some memory and you're quids in.
