Real World Heroes

Just when you thought our Heroes' couldn't get any more heroic... The City of Heroes Community (lead by Mr. and Mrs. Wentworth) has proven heroics aren't just about powers and level fifties.

As players, we cooperate to run Task Forces, to take down zombies and Rikti Invaders, and to occasionally gather for a costume contest or two. When we leave the game, our super powers don’t come with us…but that doesn’t mean we’re powerless. We are a very large group of people. We -can- step up and become Real World Heroes.

Real World Hero was organized by long-time "City of Heroes" players, Joel and Karen Garcia to rally the "City of Heroes" game community in donating to several non-profit charities.

During the final six weeks of 2009, Real World Hero will encourage donations via the Real World Hero website (http://realworldhero.com) to the following charities:

Operation Gratitude
http://opgratitude.com
(Tax ID 20-0103575)

Donate Games
http://donategames.org
(Tax ID 26-3438815)

Child's Play
http://childsplaycharity.org
(Tax ID 20-3584556)
More from Mr. Wentworth here. Stumbled upon this on Facebook, figured I'd re-post it here if you haven't seen it.
I think it'd be awesome if we as the Champion server banded together to give a super-donation for one or more of these great causes. Let me know what you guys think.

Is there one for 'Leave Them There Until The Job Is Done Otherwise The Consequences Are Far Worse'?

Figure the other side should get some representation, if someone is goin' to post a charity with a political alignment.

Agree.

Ignoring the political aside, I'm up for this.

This charity isnt about ending the war, just getting soldiers a chance to come home for Christmas.

It's an apolitical charity aimed at supporting troops and their families, without any political stance.

Click the link before you *****, guys.

Very touchy subject for me...since im in Iraq and have friends in Afghanistan. Let me say this, Thank you Shay and Major Tom for making light of these organizations we as service members realize that folks take the time and effort to take a little peace of home with or remind them whats waiting for them when they come back. These men volunteered their lives for the country with making the ulitmate sacrifice in mind everyday. Just knowing that organizations like the ones posted and folks like you guys making them know gives soldiers great comfort, especially the ones with no one back home waiting for them.

my opinion: "Political veiws or not the truth remains the same soldiers are wounded and killed everyday take the time to realize what you are doing at this moment and what they are fighting at the same time."

Well, I'd just like to say that I appreciate the OP making me aware of these places where I can contribute and make a difference.

I'd also like to say that to anyone who frequents this place and is in our armed services:

Thank you more than my heart can convey. Everyday, when I look at my kids, I am reminded that they live in a place where they are as safe as they can be from the people in the world who would like to see them blow to pieces if from no other reason other than the fact that they are Americans.

You are doing what has been asked of you and sacrificing a bit of your own personal freedom so that my family has theirs. And for that I am eternally grateful.

You are also doing something that I envy. You are sword and shield of our country and you have the respect of most of our Nation. It is a shame that that sentence does have to include the word, "most." Not that I think War is glamorous, I am a history buff and I've read and seen more than my fair share of personal accounts of war, I think I'm mature enough to understand that war is nothing like the movies or video games we see. War is a horrible place that only an unfortunate few of us must visit and an even more fortunate few of us return from.

That being said, I do my best to understand why it is that we fight and to remember that there are human beings in harms way...who elected to go there. That makes you Heroes. I also do my best to make my kids understand that while there may be "bad" people everywhere, anyone in the uniform of our Armed Services should always be viewed as "One of the Good Guys" unless his actions prove otherwise.

I am of the personal opinion that if you were allow to do your jobs and given the materials you have asked for to complete your jobs, this conflict would have been over with a long time ago. I know, from personal experience, the quality of the men and women in our military. And I know there is no task that you could not complete...if we would only let you.

It is my favorite quote, "Courage is not the absence of fear, it's acting in spite of it."

God Bless you,

And thanks,

Oathborne.

I may be misunderstanding this. I'm not making light of anything. I am a member of the Royal Canadian Legion (our equivalent of the American VFW) and spend a great deal of my time at work visiting our vets in the hospital where I work (we have a building dedicated for the sole use of veterans and their families).

Regardless of any opinions about the war, our servicemen deserve our respect, love and compassion. On my bedroom wall is a photo of my late grandfather along with all his medals and service record. My other grandfather was a POW in Hong Kong during WW2. He died before I met him.

I am the product of veterans. We all owe them more than we can ever repay.

Still, I think Tom has a great idea here. Tom, if you choose a specific charity you'd like to support let me know. I'll get on board.
