Did CoH Take My Computer Down Hard?
Unless you are a muppet, you didn't make bork up : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY_Yf4zz-yo
anyways, can you tell us what exactly happened when you tried to restart?
And how did you try to restart? Contrl / Alt / Delete? Power button down for 10 seconds?
Ah good to know ...
I restarted with the start bar ---> restart.
When the computer restarted I no longer had internet nor could I use the Start Bar.
Update:
I would say a good 2/3s of my processes are not loading hence no network connection on that machine.

You are able to click on icons and use the keyboard though?
Can you hit control-alt-delete and bring up the TaskManager for me?
In the task manager, go to Processes and look for an entry labeled explorer.exe
If you've got some kind of mouse control, try right clicking on explorer.exe and ending it.
The start menu and any other icons on the screen should disappear.
Now, in the task manager, click on File, then click on run
In the box that pops up, type the command: exploror.exe and hit enter
***
This will restart the Exploror base for Windows. Are you now able to click on and use the start menu?

also, here's something you can try to repair the computer, but you'll need to have a Windows Install CD. A recovery CD won't do, has to be an actual physical Windows XP install Disc.
With the Task Manager Open (Control-Alt-Delete to bring it up), put the CD in the drive and click on File, then Run in the Taskmanager.
type in the command: sfc /scannow
and hit enter.
This will cause Windows to compare it's current OS base with the base from the CD. If anything is different, Windows will use the CD to copy in the original files.

I would believe a large number of programs starting, then failing over because they don't have an internet connection (like Pidgin).
TY for the assistance. Nothing seems to work. Still have isues. I did the XP Install trick, ran a registry fix program. Used the Last Known Good Config, can't use the System Restore for some reason. I am feeling a full install from scratch might be needed.
That may be signs of an infection.
Please post the results of these two programs:
- CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
- HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.
NOTE: If you suspect you have a virus on your computer, then when you install HijackThis do not install it in a directory called 'HijackThis' -- modern viruses look for that and disable anything in that directory. Rename it. Also, when it starts up, do *not* run a report. Back out of the program and rename the HijackThis.exe file to something else (I renamed mine to Love.exe) -- again, to fool the modern viruses that would stop it from running.

Did CoH Take My... 10-29-2009 12:06 AM derails help thread with "you didn't make bork up" why? |
Let me bold, color, enlarge something DarkInvado wrote.
So there I was a couple of days ago logging into CoH. I had sound before I started up CoH but after CoH started I didn't. I ignored it for a bit as I was inundated with private tells the second I logged in and ended up running a RWZ Raid. Then afterwards we were going to run a TF. I really wanted sound back so I was going to restart when one of my SG mates types "Hey my sound isn't working I am going to restart." Poof he was gone and when he come back he notes that his sound still is not working. I note to the group that my sound is also not working and that I was going to do a full restart. Two days later my computer is still borked (<---- think I made that up) and I am considering having to do a full reinstall of the OS. Conincidence? Or, did CoH make hash out of my Windows XP box? |
