Going Rogue with the Mac

Transgaming has a new graphics engine rewrite coming up, presumably to be launched under the Cedega 8.x branding. Presumably the OpenGL 3.0 features needed for the new features used in Ultra-Mode will be exposed through the update.
Ok, I am duly impressed with the preview clip of Going Rogue from HeroCon. Ultramode with all the dynamic shadows and reflections looks stunning. But I am also wondering where the Mac client fits in with all of this (still lacking FSA and so forth...).
Was anyone at the Con and got to ask that question? Thanks. |

Those dynamic shadows and reflections are OpenGL 3.0 features, which Snow Leopard definitely supports (I'm not sure if Leopard does, Tiger definitely does not). The question is whether Cider will be able to translate those features from the Windows-based CoH to Mac properly. I'm eager to test whether it does myself.
As for why FSAA/Desaturation/Bloom/Distance effects don't work on the Mac right now, it's kind of complicated. I was told during the original beta that the Windows client used some sort of proprietary method to do those effects outside of OpenGL, and they didn't translate too well. OpenGL supports it though, as a video card based effect. With an entirely new graphics engine, that problem would most likely be permanently solved, because those effects would all become video card based.

As a nice plus, the tweaks being made for Ultra mode mean that there won't be any wonkiness with ATI cards under Windows.
