Eng/Eng choices
I don't have an Energy/Energy/Elec, and I don't consider myself a pure blapper of sorts, but I do have a 50 Eng/Elec/Elec and I do utilize my melee attacks a lot (so much so that on a team, I'm either using AOEs or melee and not a lot of single target ranged attacks).
For me, I could care less about melee defense. Everything I melee is either getting up, or hit with one or both of my two holds. If I'm stealthing a mission and see a boss I want to take out quickly, I'll hit buildup+aim, hit him with Shocking Grasp, my ranged hold, and finish him with the other melee attacks.
To me, at least, one of the beauties of heavy melee with an Energy Blaster is that you create your own safety through knockback. I may just as well have hit power push, and then jumped in for the melee, or have blasted from range, saw him knockdown via one of the ranged blast powers, and then jumped in. If I wanted to go the defense route with that toon of yours, I'd still do it via ranged defense because the times I really needed defense would be when I had to stay ranged. My mitigation is through knockback, sleeps, and holds. I rely heavily on power push and the holds for targets I don't want to mess around with.
If you're only blapping, and I mean to the exclusion of anything else, then maybe melee is the way to go, with enough recharge to keep that chain flowing smoothly. Look for Oblits in your nuke, Touch of death/Kinetic Combat in your melee attacks, Extreme measures in the snipe, Gauzzians in Aim/Buildup, and Razzle Dazzle in stun.
My Main is an Energy/Energy/Force Blapper. My mitigation primarily comes from having slotted Knockback sets in my AoEs (I only run about 7% defense to all positions total.
I stealth in, lead off with Torrent and follow up with Explosive Blast. If there's one or 2 left standing I move in and blap and then repeat. With 2 or 3 left a quick power thrust reduces the number to handleable again. On the occasions that I get 4 or 5 left standing I kite until the Torrent/Explosive combo is recharged. If I get in over my head I pop PFF and hit Aid Self then I get a chance to look the situation over again and possibly let the Torrent/Explosive combo recharge. Depending on the situation I've usually aggroed enough stuff that it's gathered around me and a couple of quick insps, drop PFF, Nuke is a good option. Force of Nature gets used for really tough situations in combination with the above.
It's a very active and fun playstyle for me.

Greetings fellow blasters!
I'm currently at a cross-roads of sorts. My one and only level 50, my main, is confused.
I'm pretty clueless when it comes to pimping out a 50. I've toyed with sets here and there but nothing compared to min/max.
A few months ago I loaded up Mids and took the time to look through all the sets, trying to put together a build that maximized ranged defense. Got a build I thought was the best it could be.
Went in the game and promptly used a Vetspec to get him ready. Changed some slotting, picked up the new Power Surge and then made a gigantic mistake.
I decided to leave all my IO's and SO's unslotted, figuring I could then use the money to buy my new build.
Wrong.
So, there he sat. Dejected, with no enhancements, save the one thunderstrike set I saved.
It was at this point I realized I hadn't really thought this through.
You see, this guy is a blapper. A solo stealthy boss killer.
I really should've looked into maxing out his melee defense instead.
So, now he's sitting with a paltry sum of 40 million infl. and no clue what to slot.
My computer has since decided it hates mids and refuses to load it for me, even after uninstall and redownload.
I come here for guidance.
What would you consider to be most important when slotting for a blapper? One that mainly SS+Stealths missions?
I was lucky enough to get a Karma KB protection recipe dropped, quickly added that to stealth!
Anything I shoud be aware of?
I'm currently farming away with ouro arcs for cash and doing the flipping recipes strat for extra.
Keep in mind I'm not that worried about being maxed out, just looking for a reasonable '50' build for my favorite blaster!
