The Geometry Bug Thread

I've found a few geometry bugs recently so I thought I'd start a thread, for several reasons:

  1. To get them fixed
  2. To let people have fun with them until they get fixed
  3. To encourage people to post any they find
  4. To get a working thread format for the GR beta, as there's going to masses of these in the beta, so a god way to track them would be useful

Anyway, here's the format that it will follow:
Quote:
Title Eg: Hole in the wall at City Hall in Atlas Park

Ref: <map name>.<Bug#> Eg: Atlas Park.43
-OR-
Ref: Mission.<mission name>.<contact name>.<Bug#> Eg: Mission.Stop Romulus.Imperious.56

Loc(s): <Relevant loc(s)> (<Short description>) Eg: 112 -23 76 (The hole is here)

Short: <Short description of the bug> Eg: Go to 112 -23 76, face north, and walk forwards. You will find yourself underneath the map.

Video: <Link to a video if there is one>

Screenshot(s): <Link to screenshots if there are any>

Detailed
<If the bug allows you to access somewhere not normally accessible, or requires more complex instructions, additional details will be here>
And here's the first one:
Quote:
Hole in the trees in Croatoa

Ref: Croatoa.1

Loc(s):
  • 822.7 44.1 3052.2 (Screenshot 1 | Hole in the trees)
  • -2083.1 0.0 2942.3 (Screenshots 2 & 3 | Location of secondary hole inside the trees that allows you to get under the map)

Short: Go to 822.7 44.1 3052.2 (Screenshot 1 | or as close as you can to it), face south, and fly/run/jump into the trees, you will eventually get through the hole and find yourself inside the trees. This is also present in many other tree clusters in Croatoa, probably because they all use the same set of 'blocks'.

Video: To be added.

Screenshot(s):
  • 1 (Tree Hole)
  • 2 (Secondary Hole)
  • 3 (Secondary Hole)
  • 4 (??!)

Detailed
To get underneath the zone, you must first follow the instructions above to get inside the trees, then go as far as you can towards to east boundry of the zone. Once there, look for the hole that you can seen in screenshots 2 & 3, and fly through it, you will now be underneath the zone. Some things to see:
  • The University from the outside (located underneath the University)
  • The Hospital from the outside (Located underneath the hospital)
  • Sally (If she even exists >.>)
More to come. Although the Croatoa one is the best

Regarding Croatoa:

You can get through almost any of the trees at the south end and then proceed to the same spot you described in the SE corner.
A closer point to the actual ground hole is:

-1646.9 6.5 2950.6
(I only included the "important" part of the UI)

And here is MY close-up of sally, lol:

Sally from "underwater"

It's important to note that if you fly or fall too far in certain areas, you'll be auto-TP'd to a location back up on the surface of the map.. usually the Train, University, or in front of War Witch.

Also.. the Croatoa one is NOT the best.. information to follow in next post: Matrix ROOM!

Title: MATRIX ROOM!

Ref: Peregrine Island.2

Loc: -1630.4 1.6 -6496.2

Short: Go to the above /loc, turn on any FLY power, and relog.

Screenshots:
Go here:

Relog, and you'll be here:

Fly toward the Arena (underground):

Go all the way under the structure:

Type /stuck:

Description:
Zoning or logging into a zone in a location near a door.. will make your character do the animation of coming out of that door. Relogging next to a door that is underground will put you underground (under the map) after relogging.

Warning:
Do not go to the Matrix room unless you have a way out, either by Ouro Portal, one of the various TP powers, or by having somebody else TP you out. Likewise, DO NOT TP anybody else to this location unless they also have a way out! (You CAN get reported for teleporting a player to an area in which they can not escape from!)

Side notes:
1.) The same landscape is used on Monster Island on Villainside, but using the above trick on the same spot does not let you roam around the whole zone underground. You will be blocked by water.
2.) There are many other places you can see from under PI, like Portal Corp, Hospital, Vanguard DPO, but the Matrix Room is far more interesting. The walls and floors are animated, and when you see it in action, you see why it's named it that.

Thanks, Master! I'll go have a look at that PI one and then add your info to the thread. Something to do whilst waiting for the info to start spilling from Hero Con

That trick can probably be used to get outside a lot of places, too...

Almost any of the invisible walls blocking off the trees in Croatoa are seemingly not completely solid. This includes the ones in the instanced copies of the Croatoa maps.

Also, any other places that this style of wall is used can be glitched through with relative easy. Off the top of my head, you can use this to get behind the counter of the tech store in Talos (that's where I first discovered the method below, by accident while running around waiting for teammates). Probably others as well.

There's no need to jump around trying to find the exact right spot. I've found that facing perpendicular to the invisible wall, and pressing the forward key with a quick double-tap will usually cause you to run right through it.

Having powers that increase your character's speed helps a bit as well, but you're right, there isn't really any one specific spot. You can get through almost anywhere.

Like you mentioned, the instanced maps are especially fun.... Did you know that when you instance into the zone, that the whole zone is actually loaded, not just the area your mission is? While on a Croatoa map in the SE corner, I got under the map, and went under/over the blue walls, and you can actually travel all the way to the North end of Croatoa, and just keep on going. All the objects and scenery is there, miles beyond where you would ever see from the instanced mission.

As for the store in Talos.. Be careful about that one. I glitched myself into that back room and relogged by the door back there. (I admit, I was trying to get under the map. lol)

Anyway, Logging in put me stuck in the objects piled back there, and /stuck didn't help. My only hope was to use Ouro Portal and click on that, but it wasn't as easy as it sounds. The camera was stuck as well, so I couldn't really see clearly what was going on. Yes, I'm sure I could have been TP'd out by somebody else as well, but still including the warning about being back there.

Will be updated soon.

Sorry for neglecting this, the GR thread was distracting.

Anyway, some more to be added:
1) Other instances of the 'going through invisible walls' bug
2) Other instances of the 'log off by a door' bug (including a way out of Steel Canyon)
3) A rather strange giant compass outside of Galaxy City
4) A way out of Dark Astoria

I'll start doing them a bit later today.
