Has anyone actually killed multiple rikti pylons solo?
Well, I'm sure you'll get a couple of responses here, but I know if you ask the same over at the scrapper forum you'll get a ton of people saying yes and why.
People mainly do it to get a benchmark on their DPS, since pylons regeneration is static and it only has the one attack.
People also use it as a test to see simply, if their character is capable of doing something only teams are supposed to do.
People do it more than once often enough because they tweak their build a bit, recharge here, some damage there, some different power, time to test again.
You're right though, it is boring, but in comparison to, I don't know, repeatedly doing battlemaiden for the rest of your level 50's life (which many more do), it somehow doesn't seem so bad.

I think that may have been the most boring things I've ever done. Is anyone out there masochistic enough to have done it more than once? If so, do you mind sharing why?

It's a build test for those who's character (usually a scrapper) is in little or no danger of being defeated by the pylon.
If you were ever wondering how the forum scrappers determined exactly what was the best chain for DPS, that's how they did it. They took an attack chain they wanted to test and timed themselves on beating a Pylon. Since Pylons don't regenerate, you can do some simple math based on how long it took you to kill it to determine what your DPS is using that chain.
The forum scrappers have stepped it up a notch, now they're killing pylons and RWZ Challenge spawns simultaneously.

Since Pylons don't regenerate |
This is Werner's equation:
( 38343.75 / time ) + 127.8125 = DPS
Nihilii's statement on the topic:
Pylons have a ~102hp base regen, the 127 in the formula is because it's multiplied by 1.25 in order to account for the 20% res pylons have. |
Why do I do it? Because it's a big thing to claw at. A lot of my play time is based more on escapist meditation than trying to get things done in game.
Watching pixels go through the motions while I'm clicking 1, 2, 3, 4, repeat with the occassional T thrown in for Practiced Brawler is very soothing.
Some people do yoga, some do straight meditation, I tear down pylons.
Be well, people of CoH.

And yeah.. all my toons solo a Pylon at least once... just to be sure they can.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
the sycnronized death animation performed by an entire spawn never gets old. I just love how they all turn toward the middle and fall face first leaving only a lone little monkey standing in the center.

When that happens, I'd never yell, "Bow before me!"
