AV/GM scrappen....

I read and see on the boards and utube these scraps that battle AV's and GM's and some out of this world stuff.

I know you must need so major damage out put. Is Kat still the strongest ST attk dmg?

Some of you have seen my spines/sr build, and I am very shocked how strong she is (durability wise), but I don't think it can sustain with out 1oo's of millions of influence in the build. That takes time that I don't have seeing as I might get 10 hours a week, usually on friday night into early morn sat, and sat night till early morn sunday. So that is why if any one has seen any of my tank builds, or my fire/storm/earth build, they are all about 100 mil or so. I don't have the time to rack up billions of influence.

Anyways back to my point. What secondary will give the sustainability to the endurance bar, and the durability to survive such a fight, that I see you posters post? I remember some where, some one saying kat was the highest ST dmg set, however leathal is very highly resisted. Could some one point out one of these scrapping beast power sets pri/sec.

Think some one said claws/sr is the AV killer, and spines/sr is the farmer... I have a lvl 50 db/regen and then a lvl 50 spines/sr. The concept of my db/regen just can't over power the playability of the spines/sr. I like AoE, period. However AoE doesn't kill single foes.

I would appreciate some advice here. ty in advance.

Katana isn't the highest ST dmg set.

That title goes to Dark Melee or Claws.

You can make AV killers and still have AOE for regular PvE play, just have to build for it.

Claw/SR would probably be your best bet for most AVs. Highly sustainable high DPS with just a touch of +recharge, plus rather easily soft-capped defense and capped def debuff resistance. Tough plus your scaling resistances should cover the occasion where luck fails and you get hit once or twice.

/SR isn't very endurance heavy once you start looking for +recov bonuses and slotting ample end mod into both toggles and attacks. Combined with the fact that claws already has a 20% end discount by design, and you probably won't have very many end issues, especially in the late game.

Kat/SR is also capable of putting out some nice ST damage, but will tend to have more endurance issues than Claws. On the plus side, just about every Kat attack has a def debuff component to it, and you can therefore slot the Achilles Heel proc into them for a pretty sustainable 20% resistance debuff.

All in all, soloing an AV isn't really that *hard* for any AT that can put out significant sustainable damage. It's just a matter of how time consuming it will be. My Stone/SS tank was capable of soloing AVs from lvl 37 on, and this was way before IOs were introduced in the game. As for GMs and things like the Rikti Pylons, that's where you'll need the more optimized builds. As I haven't actually done this with a Scrapper (almost with a few GMs on my thug/dark MM) I really can't give much advice about it. My gut tells me that either Claws or Kat (with -res procs) combined with SR for pure survivability would probably do best.

Another thing to consider is Fire Melee. Being all about damage, I can see it putting out some major DPS once you take care of endurance and recharge issues. Again, not an expert, but it's a nice thought.

Just my opinion, feel free to disregard...

The highest DPS available to a Scrapper is a DM Scrapper hitting 10 targets with Soul Drain and using the Smite->Siphon Life->Smite->Midnight Grasp chain. This is especially potent when combined with Against All Odds from Shield Defense. Dark Melee has a pretty good endurance recovery tool in Dark Consumption and a self-heal in Siphon Life (which also serves as a pretty awesome attack).

The downside is that it requires a good chunk of change in order to get the survivability needed to go toe-to-toe with AVs.

DM/shield i believe is the number one AV killer but like Demobot said, it requirees a lot of influence. I think you could probably make a pretty cheap DM/SR that could solo AVs

Fire/SR is the cheapest way to solo AVs it requires very little recharge to achieve a good attack chain capable of 180+ dps.

As for soloing GMs you won't be able to do that by yourself. You won't be able to produce enough sustained DPS to over come their regeneration.

I appreciate every ones feed back. Most of you who remember my old forum days, knows I stayed on tanks. well I am tryin to break out, and enjoy different roles. my db/regen allowed me a taste or scrapper lock, then my spines/sr pushed that to a kind of spawn killing high.

I since roled a bs/sd, a dm/invun (everyone knows pk is my pride and joy, so I plan on rocking invun on scraps).

Anyways thanks for the feed back.

really? i've seen scrappers solo GMs on YouTube. if dm/sd scrappers can solo avs in four minutes then surely they can solo GM's? you're prob right and im just being stupid though. i'm new to city of heroes and the forums afterall :-]

The Scrappers you've seen likely used insp's and temp's. If not, it was from a much older issue. You'll need 360 DPS to overcome a GM's regeneration. DM/SD Scrappers haven't been getting any further than 300 DPS.

Oh, and no, they're actually soloing AV's much quicker than four minutes! You see, 300 DPS is practically equivalent to soloing an AV in 2 minutes and 17 seconds (28272 / 137 = 206.36 + 94.24 = 300.6 DPS).
