Starts to black Logon screen

My apologies if this is a known issue, but try as I look I couldn't find anything remotely resembling my issue and I'm straining to get this figured out before I'm forced to give in to the sad fact my game won't work anymore.

So a while ago,my comp needed to be repaired. It got fixed, got a new monitor, I believe I also got a new vid card (more on that later) and worked fine.

I get poked by friends to play again, so I figure I'd take advantage of double XP Weekend and play then, making sure to patch up a few days earlier.

Yesterday evening, I turn the downloader on. Loading screen comes on as usual. Then black...then more black...then these weird white lines outlining where the menu screen would be if the blackness didn't cover everything. With some moving of the cursor I can see a couple shapes representing the login name and the password and can even 'feel' buttons underneath and can go as far as the server menus and whatnot but I'm essencially playing blind (to a point - I can see the toon in the select menu but not, say, the WORDS). Did I mention it messes with my resolution every time it starts up as well?

Rebooting didn't work. Updating the driver on my vid card didn't work (either I coudn't find the right one or it has nothing to do with it. I am completely stymied. So if there's anyone that could help me out in figuring out what's causing this, I'd appreciate it.

Here's some info in case this helps:

Computer: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz, 960 MB of Ram
OS: Win XP
Vid Card Name(Internal): VIA Chrome9 HC IGP Family (Ver. 6.14.0010.009)

My apologies if this HAS been touched on in the past and I wasn't able to find the answer. Either way, thank you for your time.

I don't think that video card is supported, but it's hard to tell with the name given. What little I can find seems to indicate it is an S3 video card or chipset (likely onboard) and that is NOT a supported video chipset for the game.

To get a full picture of the hardware, drivers, and settings involved, please post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Truthfully I have a feeling the new vid card was the culprit, but I just had to be certain. Just in case, here's the data:

Yeah, sadly, it's the video card. It's an S3 video card chipset, which is not only not supported, but plain garbage for anything but text.

Won't even bother looking at the rest of it at this point, since it's a bit of a moot point.

The good news is that your motherboard has a PCI-Express slot that you can put a supported video card in. I'd also recommend upgrading the memory, since 1 Gb is a bare minimum nowadays. You may want to look at your power supply as well, and report back here on what brand/wattage it is so that people can recommend a video card that your current power supply can handle.

Well I know it's 500W, though I don't recall the brand right now.

In any case, you have my sincerest thanks, you've been a great deal of help in helping me understand my computer a little better (and what it can and cannot do). While I lament it might be a bit before I can get a new vid card (and still need to see what kind I can even get), at least I can rest a little better knowing that this problem has a solution after all, if a costly one.
