The Arena makes me mad, its so confusing to set up a battle

I just ran from kings row all the way to Galaxy with another player so we could set up a battle. we get into the arena and neither of us can figure out how to fight.
I clicked "Create Event" and dont see him on the list.
We stood there for 15 minutes and couldn't get it together, he ended up leaving.

Can you please make it easier to set up a battle for idiots like me who dont know what to click to set it up?
I've been playing this game for 4 years and I never do pvp battling because its so complicated to set it up.

Maybe when players go into the arena you can right click on the player and have a menu option there like "invite to battle" or something.
Something easier, I hate the way it is now.

I think the designers pretty much abandoned refining the function of the arena after the PvP zones went live. There is, I believe, no actual way to have a properly private fight in the PvP zones, but it seems most people prefer to try their luck over there anyway, rather than futz with the arena controls.

Me, I have a well-documented complete lack of interest in fighting other player characters, so that and two bucks will get you a cheese danish, but I believe that's where the matter stands at the moment. I've got nothing against the arena controls being streamlined for those that want to partake, but with the overall focus of PvP having moved to the non-instanced zones, I don't think I'd stand on the corner waiting for that particular bus for too long if I were you.

For a simple duel

/arenalist
This opens the arena console anywhere you wish

Create a new match, hit the list match button

/ai <playername>

once they accept press 'fight' and you get ported into the arena fight


Not well known, but very easy to carry out

The one thing (as I recall) that threw me when I first started trying is that "Custom" wasn't really a valid choice - it'd always fail creating the match, you had to pick a match type.

After that it was generally easy - though I (admittedly) haven't looked much at it lately.
