The following Ancillary Power Pools would be relatively easy to add probably, and fill in missing niches for hero power sets.

Defender
Weaponry Mastery:

  • Body Armor (Auto: Self +Res (Smash/Lethal))
  • Cryo Freeze Ray (Ranged Hold)
  • Sleep Grenade (Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Sleep)
  • Rifle Butt (Melee, Moderate Damage (Smashing), Stun)
  • LRM Rocket (Sniper (Targeted AoE), Extreme Damage, Foe Knockback)

Frost Mastery:
  • Flash Freeze (Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Sleep, Minor Damage (Cold/Lethal))
  • Greater Ice Sword (Melee, High Damage (Cold/Lethal), Foe -Spd -Rech)
  • Frozen Armor (Toggle, Self +Def (Smash/Lethal) +Res (Cold))
  • Hoarfrost (Click, Self Heal, +Max HP, +Res (Toxic))
  • Hibernate (Toggle, Self Intangible, +Regen, +Recovery)

Blaster
Mental Mastery:
  • Dominate (Ranged, Foe Hold, Moderate Psionic Damage)

I agree, but how? I mean, yeah the Patron concept made themes much easier, but it also ended up limiting how many they can have.

I definitely agree with the need for new thematic pools to fit proliferations. That said, there's no way they are giving blasters confuse, a hold, and an AoE sleep to go along with some of the many controls available in their primaries/secondaries.

I certainly agree with the overall pool suggestions, however.

I'd add 'patrons' outside of the Arachnos organization. Just as Burke is the 'not Arachnos' option to Kalinda. They could be powerful villains on their own, working for their own ends and showing you, the villain, a few new tricks to help them better, or they could be part of another faction sharing secrets to help you should you ally yourself with them. (For instance, a CoT mage that shares fire powers should you help him enough.) Just thinkin.'

These would probably come with more stories, which would mean more work, but I'm not averse to extra content. Especially if it means I don't have to 'serve' another patron, even if I stick it to them in the end.

Tesla Mastery is too vague. Does it refer to mastery of the specialized hammer used in the Mediterranean? Are you perhaps an expert on the songs and albums of the hard rock band Tesla? Or are you meant to have the powers and abilities of Nikola Tesla himself*?

I don't think it would be too powerful, Blasters already have access to a Sleep and a Hold in Munitions Mastery, and it would be APP-ified and nowhere near as good as the Controller version. I could see Levitate being a decent replacement, though.

Oh! That could work! Maybe with the Fifth Column back the Council would be looking for a little extra help, and thus we could get Nictus Mastery?

Since Scirocco can now teach you Soul, Mace or Leviathan Mastery, I don't see why he couldn't also teach Fiery, Psionic, etc. Mastery. Some goes for the other Patrons

I kinda get the feeling they'll postpone giving heroes any new ancillaries* until Going Rogue goes live, and maybe they'll give ancillaries to villains and patron pools to heroes. That's kinda my hope, anyway. I figure ancillaries would have more variety, but patron pools would be more consistent and a little more powerful.

Also, the odds are slim that we would ever get a Nikola Tesla pool or powerset. The devs would be forced to choose between it being faithful to the legacy of the man who essentially paved the way to the 20th century and beyond, or being balanced against other powersets or pools. An absolute no-win situation for them.


*Don't talk to me about the i16 addition of Blaze Mastery. I mean come on. Three choices were NOT enough.
