Info needed on purple drops

First of all, I know, there are many threads about "Purples", I read some of them, but I didn't find what I'm looking for.

First of all, are purple recipes pool A recipes? We know that the ratio for common/uncommon/rare in pool A is 32:8:1, did devs change it for purples, or are purples in an other pool, like wings?
ParagonWiki says that the droprate is 1:5000. That means they're not pool A recipes (it would obviously change the 32:8:1 ratio), so, it means that if I kill a minion, or a boss, I have a 1:5000 chance of having a purple in both cases? Not considering enemy rank seems pretty strange...

So, anyone have more info on that? The first question is "Are purple recipes include in pool A?". So, if you ever dropped a purple recipe AND a pool A recipe on the same mob, it would immediatly answer that one, and be very helpful to me.
Thanks!

I have never definitively seen a statement that they are definitely pool A. However, I think there's some various evidence that suggests they are, some of which is anecdotal.

  • I have never seen nor heard of a purple and a pool A dropping at the same time. This is possible with other differing drop pools. For example, I have gotten an enhancement recipe and costume recipe off of the same mob defeat before, when solo. It's possible I have never heard of this simply because it is sufficiently rare.
  • For a while, you could get Purples off of non-Gold AE ticket rolls. This was a bug. It possibly suggests the devs had to do something to stop Purples from appearing in the reward list.
The data on 1:5000 is aggregate information. The devs have never told us the chance on a per-mob basis the way they did for non-purple drops in I9 beta. So the data gathered is an average across all mob ranks which is why it is given as invariant with mob rank.

Finally, there is more recent data, gathered by TopDoc, that suggests that the denominator 5000 given on the Wiki is too large. His testing produced a number closer to 2000.

The best evidence I've seen came from the bugged Cargo ship map, a while ago. When there was a set pattern of exactly which mobs would drop Pool A recipes, one of the things that could drop at the "Pool A" spot was Purples. Those same spots in the sequence never dropped costume recipes, which happened at different points in the sequence.

So, yes. I'm fairly confident based on observations of that map that Purples are low-probability drops in Pool A. If I had to guess, I'd say to get a purple there has to be a Pool A drop, it has to be the 1/41 that's rare, and then there is another roll to determine if it's purple.

Ok, thanks guys, I understand that we can't be sure without official numbers. I'm going to try EarthWyrm theory (Purple = sub-"rare" category) and see what I can get from there with some tests. Thanks again!
