Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day.

My one and only MA arc (#314490) just so happens to chock-full to the gunwales of piratey goodness - zombie ninja piratey goodness, in fact. So, clearly, today be the best day of the year to run up the flag and maybe add to the 2 plays it already has. I hope anyone who tries it will get some fine booty, as well as enjoying the story. :-)

What other pirate-themed arcs are out there? Does anyone have any recs? I'm in the mood to buckle a few swashes.

With a name like this arc I was not expecting much to be honest. But since it was Pirates Day, I donned my wooden pegleg and hook and talked to contact.

The contact was not any informer, hero, police officer or city official but a carnival member. Who had an interesting spiel why I as a hero (hahaha fooled her) would not want to arrest her but help her out with a problem. The dialogue was excellently written and the contact was believable. The story had some nice plot twists and enough different opponents to make this arc feel fresh every mission. It had nice clues, short descriptions for the custom mobs and key characters. Only gripe was the use of defeat all's in not huge but tricky maps. Took me awhile to got them all.

And it brought me a nice souvenir, shame if some evil villain got his hands on that! Oh wait, I am an evil villain and I surely can find a good use for that one. Hahaha, tricked the trickster here. Foolish Carnival thinking they could outwit me!

Now if, hmm what is this? Made in Hong Kong? What it is a cheap copy.

Curses, Foiled Again. I mean: Arrrr shiver me timbers!!! I'll shake their bones!

I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I admit, I am really bad at coming up with good descriptive titles -- I always have been.

I started off trying to make a neutral arc, but it tends to make the dialogue come out very bland, so in the end I just went all-out with the heroic alignment. Maybe I'll do a proper villain one next, to balance things up.

I dithered over the two defeat alls, but the plot kind of requires clearing the bad guys up at those points. There's a sad lack of good outdoor maps, especially ones suitable for Zombie Ninja Pirates to hang out in. Hmm... I could definitely get rid of the last kill all, and just have the end clue assume that the player has wrapped everything up.

The first kill all seemed indeed logical and it was only the map itself that makes it hard to catch them all.

With the last mission, it is just a matter of mopping up. You could even assume that the pirates return to the bottle willingly after their captain is captured. Only problem then is that you miss out on the side joke. Which is funny of course but is separate from the story. Maybe you can mention a disturbing sound that you think you need to investigate. Or you could explain the whole surprise thing in a clue and don't mention it in the debriefing in the end.

Ah! I knew there was a reason I had the last kill all there :-) Of course, if players clear all the other mobs and leavethe EB 'til last, they'll still miss the surprise, anyway, so it isn't a particularly cast-iron reason. So far the options look like:

- leave it as it as.
- get rid of the surprise and have the mission end with the EB defeat. (Although it seems kind of un-Carnie not to have them try to do *something* to the hero.)
- get rid of the defeat all, and make the surprise a mission objective.

Hmm...I shall go and fiddle with the arc a bit, I think.

Thank you very much for the excellent feedback.
