Raaaaaage!
Doh! Your search-fu is stronger than my search-fu.
Actually, I admit I didn't even bother to search. I mostly wanted to talk about how fun SS was, but did have that little question I figured I should add while I'm making a topic.
EDIT TO ADD: How about a real question then. How much recharge can you get into a SS/WP? Could it get triple stacked rage? Could it get an attack chain on the order of Haymaker -> Footstomp -> Haymaker -> KO Blow -> Haymaker... etc?
Where to now?

I play an SS/fire brute myself.
With about 3 IOs worth of recharge in my rage plus hasten plus a nice little 40% global recharge I've gained through sets, I regularly see triple stacked rage in combat. How you achieve this for yourself will be all about how you manage your sets and powers. However its very possible. And very fun.
Good luck!

Stacking it more than twice would be useless in the long run.

**edit** You can squeeze plenty of recharge in SS/WP. That's one of the possible build goals. Hit points are a universal goal. Usually builds diverge when it comes to going for heavy recharge, or typed defense bonuses. It's hard to have both at extremes. You can have a mix, but you won't get the 250% recharge into KO for the maximum damage string. You don't need recharge at such levels to be competitive though. Though there is something nice about KO recharging in 7 seconds on average.
You could do that, but there are better attack chains for Super-Strength than using Footstomp on Single targets. KO Blow-Gloom-Haymaker-Punch-Haymaker is possible with 250+ Recharge in KO Blow (That's global, hasten, and enhancements). You might not want to start a fight off with KO on low fury, but after you have built up 50%+ there is no reason to hold back.

I had this silly idea of using the kinetic combats and building with a ton of +movement just so no one can keep up while I smash things without movement suppression.
Since you say there's pretty much two ways to build a SS/WP brute (recharge or defense, but always health first), I'm guessing I'd be better off going for defense since I'm avoiding hasten. Maybe it's viable to build for a mixture of recharge and damage bonuses?

So on to the point of the thread (yeah, I like to type and I'm a bit dramatic), how do you deal with the rage crash? So far, I just leave it on auto and fight through the crash. I'm still knocking down, mitigating damage, and maintaining fury, though I admit to "saving" KO Blow until the crash is over.
And is there an optimal recharge time for Rage? If it recharges exactly as fast as it wears off, some of the second rage is made useless because of the first one's crash. One crash every two minutes is annoying, but certainly manageable. If it recharges faster than it wears off, you start getting more crashes, but you also get stacked rages. What if you could get the recharge down to exactly one minute? After the first minute, you would be permanently at 160% damage bonus. The problem is that now you are dealing with a crash every minute. Is it possible, and more importantly, is it worth it? If it is possible, lets go wild and assume you could get it tripple stacked. Does this put you over the damage cap with fury? Would it be worth how often crashes happen? |
No I'm not raging at anything in particular, I just like the power. In fact, I like the whole set. A lot.
I rolled a SS/WP, and I was impressed from the beginning. Firstly, it just feels so ... SUPER. I know it's been said before, but for animations that aren't flashy, the set just feels powerful. I think it's the sounds.
zzzzzzzzz...BOOM!
I definitely had more fun with this set than I've had with anything else. I would find myself zooming out and rotating my camera just to watch my brute smash things.
RttC was a game-changer... it seemed the only thing that could slow me down was a lack of blues. I really hated fighting Mu, but anything else was a cakewalk so long as I converted everything to blue insps.
Then I found what could be the best power in the game. Rage. With just one level 20 IO it was up for 2/3rds of the time. I only have one damage enhancement in my powers and I can still one shot minions with KO blow (granted, it's overkill). Punch, KO blow... LT is down. Punch, Haymaker... minion down. Oh, KO blow is up... one less minion. NEXT GROUP! I was level 23 before I knew what happened.
