Most of the DB-hate is because in regular pvp against non-melee-focused opponents, they'll never sit in melee range with you long enough for you to chain combos together. If you're in a melee-vs-melee duel, and the DB brute can just happily build up his fury and you don't bounce around at all to pop other powers and delay his combo timing, then DB can do fairly decent damage.

Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.

Could also depend on his powers and the enhancements slotted. I do know my DB/WP brute has 3 different combos he whips through constantly. But there's also the fact that I stock up on the luck type inspirations almost exclusively. When I get nailed by an alpha strike, I choke down a bunch of those real fast, then pop a heal inspiration. But each of my big attacks have a proc enhancement in them, and almost each power has a set that gives health regen. If he nails you w/ Attack Vitals chain, following up w/ One Thousand Cuts, you'll be hurting quite a bit. Some of the attacks also add a really nasty side-effect, such as debuffing your defense. If he neuters your regen rate, your defense, AND knocks you up/sweeps you, it won't be fun.

My question is how does *any* player allow a DB character get a combo off of her in PvP? You either have to be dumb, not paying attention or handicapped in some way to allow that to happen.
