help game flat out REFUSES to load

anytime i load the game it just sits there with the splash screen over my desktop, hangs completely still for hours on ened, and the task maanger says it is using 0% of my cpu. i can run unreal tournament 3 in full settnigs with absolutely no slowdown, so i doubt it's from not meeting specifications. i am on windows xp sp2 32-bit with a dual core cpu. this happened to me when i tried before. is the free trial alraedy being used? that would be bullcrap because i can't even GET ONT HE GAME

Ah, kk. It was the skinning program, I made an exception for it. Now I have an even bigger problem, should I ask in this topic or make a new one? (I will move this post if you tell me to make a new topic out of it):


Having installed it on my second harddrive, I should have known better because that harddrive is physically DYING. When I play games from it, and COH is no exception, it will freeze for like 10-20 seconds, and then I hear a large "CLICK!!!!!" and then it resumes. This happens almost every half a minute, which made customizing my hero unbaerable. So, I uninstalled it from my secondary drive, re-ran the installer and put it on my main harddrive (that ISN'T) dying, but wait?? What the heck happened? The desktop shortcut has a blank white generic program icon, and when I open the game the updater has a broken image picture and just hangs there. I looked in the folder and hardly any of the files installed? I uninstalled and reinstalled like 10 times and got the same result over and over again. Aghhhh why is this game so frustrating to get to work! (Sighs) I have about 5 gigs remaining and it asks for 3.. that's cutting it close, but isn't that enough? Do I need more room for temp files or something during install? I'm tearing my hair out here, I just wanna try this game! lol

Yes it does require extra space for installing. And only having 5 gigs available is bad anyway. I would suggest a few possibilities.

First, clean up your hard drive. If you don't know how to do it then right click on the drive, select properties, and then select disk cleanup. There is a good chance this will free up at least a couple gigs.

Second, anything you want to keep but almost never use or look at, burn it to cd or dvd and remove it from your hard drive. When you have a couple terrabytes of space to play around with then keeping old stuff is no problem but when you are tight for space it's always better to makes seperate archive disks.

Third, get a new secondary hard drive. It's possible to pick up a good 250 gig drive for around $40.

If you can't do either of these there is a possible work around. If the game is still physically on your second drive then you can skip step 1 and go directly to 2.

Step 1: Install the game on your second hard drive.

Step 2: Copy the game files from the game folder on the second drive to the game folder on the first drive.

Step 3: Put a copy of the cohupdater.exe file on your desktop. Not a shortcut but the actual updater file.

Step 4: Run the updater file and when it asks where to install the game then point it at the directory you already copied the files to. At this point it should just verify all the files instead of actually needing to install them.
