Having trouble loading ;/

Well at the moment the main problem i'm having is i'm having immense amounts of trouble loading the City of Heroes game.
Firstly, the problem starts to occur after the updater when the Loading window pops up, and it comes to the screen of which the City of Heroes art it, with the loading screen
There, it stops responding and spends about 10 minutes sorting itself out then loads up to the log in.
After logging in its fine up until I click the enter paragon city with any character, where it turns slow and it fails to load up fully. After about a quarter of the way loading which takes about 20 minutes, it goes straight back to the login screen.
So far, i've tried switching it to Safe Mode, Running the client as an administrator, Running it in compatabiliy mode as various kinds of Windows, updated all drivers, reinstalling the whole client, tried most things.
The only problem I could think as to why i'm having these problems is i'm running a 32-bit Windows 7 Operating System, and that is a very recent Operating System. The specs i'm running seem fine for most games, so I wouldn't really expect them to be of any problem,
Such as -
1 GB of Ram Geuine Intel CPU @ 1.60 GHz 2.66 GHz
ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO Graphics Card
These Specs seem sufficient for nearly all games I run on this PC, apart from City of Heroes

Is there any explanation for these problems i'm occuring?

Windows 7 AND City of Heroes with 1GB RAM? Seems low.

ATI 2400 card, although I'm not familiar with ATI cards, seems on the older side.

What other games are your specs sufficient for?

What is your free hard drive space?

CoH really is a system hog. Try disabling all non-essential systems and programs.

Post the results of CoH Helper, and HiJackThis to let the tech gurus have a better look at your system.

My suggestion would be to start with the easy stuff first. (Good idea to do as Xalaqia said and post HiJackThis and CoH Helper).
Before you start Coh, shut down any unnecessary programs running in the background.
Empty out temp files.
I close my anti-virus program ONLY when I am on CoH..have had little lag since doing this.
I use Defraaggler to do a quick defrag. (ESPECIALLY useful right after a patch/update..amazing how that frags the came parts.)
Flush your dns files. (Open the 'run' prompt and enter ipconfig /flushdns. I made a quick-launch icon for this.)
See if those things help at all. The info from the HiJackThis and CoH Helper will pinpoint any other things. Also, make sure your driver are installed cleanly, and they are up to date. Hang in there..

Hell knows what you'll find in them, first time i've used this computer in a while, thats why theres all the old and dodgey specs inside.
And don't ask me why the Windows 7 is on there, I have no idea either, I partly blame my family.

I was looking through some of the other threads and I saw someone with a similar problem who had Windows 7,
He treated it by switching the compatability mode to Windows 98/ME which also worked partly for me, but it still has problems with text and major cursor issues.

Well, the first problem I see is the low amount of RAM and the number of background processes you have running. First step would be to turn off (or prevent from starting) unnecessary programs like Steam and Windows Sidebar (wasn't that a serious hinderance in Vista?)

Secondly, it appears your driver installation for your graphics card failed. *IF* you have a PCI-E version of the HD2400 graphics card, you can get the latest from ATI's Web site. If you have an AGP version of the HD2400, then you'll probably need to get drivers from the card's manufacturer's web site.

Give that a shot and see how it performs. Then come back and let us know.

ATI Vid Card driver dates.... For those with more knowledge... do they usually show wonky dates?

First thing, is are your ATI vid card drivers current?

Ok. The 1 Gig of RAM is a bit low.

Also, your driver installation is corrupted. Download DriverSweeper and install it, but don't run it yet. Download the correct video driver for your card, uninstall all ATI display driver and Catalyst Control Center stuff from the Programs and Features setting in the Control Panel (it used to be known as Add/Remove Programs). Reboot into Safe Mode (press F8 rapidly as computer is booting up until the menu comes up), run DriverSweeper to remove all ATI Display Driver and other video related software, reboot into normal Windows, cancel any automatic installations that try to come up, then install the video drivers you downloaded earlier.

I'm not certain where the HD 2400 falls in the video card ratings, but since it is an ATI card, I would recommend setting your CCC and in-game video settings to those in the first post of Bill Z Bubba's ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread that is stickied in this forum. It gives reasons for most of the settings and is a good baseline to start with. Once you get things running smoothly, you might be able to tweak some settings up 1 settings at a time, or you may just want to not mess with a good thing, especially if you aren't sure what each setting does exactly.

I prefer not installing my games to the C:\Program Files directory, especially those that run updates such as CoH. Instead, I install to a folder called C:\Games so that my CoH install is at C:\Games\City of Heroes instead.

Also, you have a LOT of unnecessary files starting up with Windows, as shown by the 04 entries in HijackThis. I'd recommend going into msconfig and going to the Startup tab and killing off unneeded programs like Adobe Reader Speed Launcher, Java Update Scheduler, the QuickTime task, iTunesHelper, etc. Those programs will launch when you start something that needs them, so it is using up resources you are already short on at startup.

After doing these things, post a fresh CoH Helper and HijackThis log and let us know how it's running for you.
