Random Mission Map Generator

While I know that it'd be a HUGE undertaking for the developers and programmers, some time in the future it'd be nice if there was a random generator for most of the mission maps. Not for specific landmark missions like major archvillains, but for Newspaper and Police Band Radio missions at least.

One of the many gripes that has been going around for a while is the predictability of the maps, especially for the old timers. A new system would keep things fresh. Not knowing where the bad guys are going to show up would be awesome for a lot of us.

But, I know that dev/prog time is very constrictive. I wouldn't expect anything like this before Issue 25 or something. Just thought I'd get this out there while I was still thinking about it.

If I read correctly, your looking at something like the Randon World Generator in ST:O or?

I don't know about that. Sorry

Think of it like a series of tiles with various maze things on it: Straight halls, curves, corners, the big rooms, etcetera... Throw them in a blender and see what comes out. Of course, there'd have to be a predefined setting in the random generator that will line up the corridors and rooms so that there aren't any orphaned tiles, but the effect would be to have a different map for each mission.

Accept a mission and the generator does it's thing. Pattern is given to the client as well as the server to disseminate to others on your team.

Heh, thanks.

Might be a coding nightmare, but it would add a level of variety. Besides, it's not like they would make less sense than the regular maps, which were created by a machine scanning the dreams of drugged M. C. Escher. Fact.

Most of the stock existing maps are assembled from predefined tiles linked together.

Back in CoV beta several of the office and Arachnos maps had gaps between the tiles that you could fall through, that needed to be fixed before launch.

Plus sometimes on some maps (on the minimap) you can see slight gaps between the sections.

So the underlying technology could well work with a generator...

I'd love to see it, like Diablo 1 set locations remained the same but all the dungeons were somewhat random. made the re-playability much greater than many more recent games.
