High Defense on a Brute self-defeating?

Hey,

I've got a level 43 Elec/WP brute I'm working. It's my first run through of WP on any AT.

I see that WP has a lot to offer. Regen/Def/and Resist, plus end help. Nice. My question is though, is going for high defense kinda self-defeating because of fury?

Right now I've got something like 30 HP/sec regen without RttC (not sure what ii is with it, but it's fully slotted with heal IOs), notable resists of over 50% to S/L and 30% to psi, and 20'ish S/L defense (28'ish to en/neg en & 24'ish to fire/cold).

Should I go for more Defense? And if so, obviously with my durability increasing but at a cost to damage, is it worth it? What about other Brutes, too? I ask because the high defense just seems counter to the idea of the AT.

I mostly solo and have really no problem rolling on Ruthless. I just was wondering what everyone thought about it. If this has been discussed at length before, my apologies... I'm new to the Brute forum.

Thanks,

Defense has nothing to do with generating fury. It's not if the hit lands, it's if the hit was attempted.

My only brute is a DB/SR, his fury is almost always at 75%+

I would also have to say it depends on your focus are you focusing on damage output or holding agro if the later then max defense is a good thing despite any loss to dmg or fury generation because your job is not to kill the agro just hold it so it does not get your team mates while they kill the agro.

if damage is your goal then maybe more ballance however if your making a PvP brute forget fury and focus on def, res and raw damage

Sacrificing damage for high def is a myth.

Period.

Fury can be generated through your attacks as well as through being attacked. And as was pointed out already, it doesn't have to hit you to generate it.

Also, if you build right, with WP you can softcap def, and get a lot of +regen. This will make you damn hard to kill. You can still get a lot of damage into your attacks, and if you take the time to work for it, you can build solid bonus damage. With more AoE in your set, you will sacrifice a little bit, but you probably won't notice it much.

here is a sample build.

A brute who isn't on a team to kill things is not a brute.

That's correct. The previous poster must have been thinking of a Tanker.

Awesome, I didn't know that. I always thought the hit needed to land and often get hit enough to not realize that fury was going up even when I wasn't getting hit. Thank you.

Told ya I was new to Brutes, hehe.

Then why are you still lurking on the forums? Go out and SMASH something, dammit!
