Windows 7 - slow loading

Just installed W7 and figured I'd try running CoH. No such luck, though as both the loading screen and zones {well, zone} take a ridiculous amount of time to load. Has this problem appeared before, and if so, what are the possible solutions?

Same problem here.

After some experimentation, running the game in compatibility mode for Win98/ME of all things solves the loading issue, but that leads to another problem, though not completely game-stopping in this case - whenever something involving text happens, such as opening the Clues window or even just typing, the game takes a massive framerate hit. Even simply displaying a lot of text on the screen seems to halve it.

I have run into this problem before. It seems a culprit is a Windows hot-fix installed some time on or after June 15th. The only permanent solution I found was to roll back to this date and stop installing automatic updates.

Hmm... given that I've installed long after that date and thus have no appropriate system restore points available, any ways to achieve that?

I'm having the same issue. I tried Windows XP SP2 and 3 compatibility mode. This is a brand new install of Windows7. I haven't installed anything else except CoH and the basic updates to windows.

Downloaded the 190.38 nVidia drivers and the issue is fixed.

NCsoft support comes through yet again!

Response (Mike C.) 08/09/2009 12:01 PM Hello [ain't gonna tell ya]

The fact that you had to get the game to run in Compatibility Mode just to solve a loading issue suggests that there's a system resources/system-side configuration issue at work here.

Let's try starting the game in Safe Mode and then try adjusting the following video settings (You can reach these by going to Menu > Options > Graphics and Audio):

Advanced Graphics Settings = Enabled
Resolution = 1280x1024
Particle Physics Quality = Medium
World Texture Quality = Medium
Character Texture Quality = Very High
World Detail = 50%
Character Detail = 100%
Max Particle Count = 15000 (15 thousand)
Vertical Sync = Disabled
FSAA = Off
Shadows = Disabled
Shader Quality = Medium
Water Effects = None
Depth of Field = Disabled
Bloom Effects = None
Desaturation Effects = Disabled

Once this is done, go ahead and click "Apply Now" and then restart the game client entirely.

If any of these settings are grayed-out it just means your card does not support that option so you can disregard it. If this helps out you can go back and increase different features to find a balance with graphics and performance. Let us know what results you get.

Strangely enough this fixed mine as well...

Graphics settings for the video drivers must have been set to high. Hopefully the next set of nvidia drivers will let me crank up the settings again.

Unfortunately, on my end the attempt to start the game in Safe Mode made it crash completely right off of the bat.
Updater vanished, 'loading' appeared on screen and BAM, dead.

With the latest video driver I can get into the login and character creator, but as I type I've been waiting for almost 15 minutes already for the loaderbar on Mercy Island to progress past 1/5th of the bar.

I am on windows build 7100 because currently the latest RC seems to be too unstable for my machine.
