Pools, plz

So today, as I was bemoaning my inability to make a weapon-master guy who can pick off targets with a bow and then finish them off with a sword when the close to melee range, I started thinking about power pools a bit.

I know all the usual arguments about now mixing melee and ranged attacks, but really... Blasters have melee attacks in their secondaries (although admittedly, when I am playing a blaster I tend to do my best to stay out of melee...) Khelds obviously can go from melee to ranged. ANY AT can take the Fighting power pool (I had a controller who I saw as Batman-ish with some magical abilities and used the fighting pool with Sands of Mu a lot on him).

So I am wondering why we can't have a Missile Weapons pool or something. A few simple, not-too-powerful attacks for the sake of character concept. Before saying that it is unbalanced or whatever, I will point out again that I can make an Archery blaster and then have the Fighting Pool and Sands of Mu, giving a number of melee attacks combined with ranged attacks. All I am asking is the possibility to reverse it, adding a few light ranged attacks to a melee character. Or even the ability to have the character use a sword instead of bare fists (no change to the game here, except visually). I have a level 50 stalker who still uses her throwing daggers despite their inability to do any real damage, simply because I like the look of it and the concept of being a ninja with a thrown weapon.

It would be pretty easy to do, I imagine. Animations could be lifted from existing sets.

I *know* there will be those who say that this is a horrible idea, but I would like to hear a reason, not just "I don't like it". I am not suggesting anything game-breaking, just a bit of a visual/ conceptual addition.

I always like more options for creativity.

An issue is "what else" will that pool have though. And, not really a balance issue per se, but what about when people gimp themselves out of a travel power by taking all attacks?

I think it'd be a good idea to a certain extent, but epic pools exist too, and they tend to change things up for melee characters as well as ranged.
