Earth/Fire dominator

With the new I15 changes I decided to roll a dominator. Earth/Fire seemed quite a nice pair because of the AoE control and damage available from the two sets.

The build I came up with aimed for recharge to get domination up as much as possible for mez protection and increased mez strength. I think it is quite close to perma and I won't mind a gap of a couple of seconds anyway.

I picked Mu mastery to get a nicely rounded resistance toggle, an additional AoE attack, a pet capable of healing and power sink as an emergency endurance tool.

Also, the Basilisks are intentionally level 10. I'm expecting that they should be quite cheap at that level. Is this the best I can do with the amount of money it's going to cost?

From the phrasing here, just in case you don't know... you need to build Domination up. Perma-Dom works because if you're already in Domination, you can click the power again. If it drops, you'll need to build it back up before you can use it again. So a downtime of a couple of seconds will actually be all the time it takes you do rebuild your Domination bar - which isn't much in a big team, but still, it'll be more than a couple of seconds.

Also, the Basilisks are intentionally level 10. I'm expecting that they should be quite cheap at that level.

[/ QUOTE ]

Level 30s are in much higher supply than level 10s, or any other level. It's generally a lot quicker/easier to get IOs at the level they cap at. You may well have a hard time getting these at a lower level.

The best way to save money but still get them in a decent timeframe would be avoiding using the acc/end/recharge/hold, as the rest are pretty cheap on villain side. Or get the rest at 30 and then place a range of low bids on different levels for that one, perhaps. Alternatively, do rare or gold rolls in the 10-15 pool (after you turn 30), as it's a relatively small pool and you might get it as a drop.

If you're looking for other cheap ways to get more recharge, consider slotting Kinetic Crash in Animate Stone. It gives a decent damage percentage - not as good as a pet set would, but you should do a lot of damage anyway. 6-slotting it gives you another 7.5% boost, and it's a cheap set. You could technically slot it in Earthquake, too, but it might start doing knockback instead of knockdown, which would be a pain.

I'll not comment past that as while I do have an Earth/Fire, she's only level 12 or so, and I've not played either set much on a Dom.

Bah. I did actually know that, but for some reason I totally ignored the mechanics. The time it takes to build up domination isnt much in a big team, though. At least from what I've experienced so far. And I'm not planning to solo at all.

I could use the activate-interrupt snipe trick to build up domination if I absolutely need it fast.

Also a good point on the Basilisk availability. The character is only lvl 22 now so I could leave some long term bids out there. I'll have to check the market and then decide what I'm going to do.

Some obvious differences between my build and yours, dont know if mines better or not but it functions well enough :P

A few of the differences between the builds as follows:

Fossilize - I only went with the 4 slots and the basilisks gaze set here for the recharge bonus. So its not maxed out for % values but with the amount of recharge I have its not a problem. It's always up when I need it (tbh I can just spame Fossilize and flares without much of a gap). So if you are looking to save some slots maybe just keep the 4 slots.

Flares - I out the entropic chaos set in for the recharge bonus. I find flares useful as its always up with the recharge I have and something to chip away at the enemies health with while blaze is recharging.

Stone Prison - I didnt take the immob powers at all. The AOE one just causes way to much agro, and the ST one is redundant when you can just hold something instead. Instead I went for Incinerate, its a nice ST melee attack (got a bit of a buff through the recent changes afaik as well) and a slight mix of melee/ranged attacks can be useful at times. Crushing Impact is also a nice IO set and will give 5% recharge for 5 pieces.

I've never had a problem with the range of fire breath, always seemed quite long to me anyway so if you are looking for more slots I'd consider taking the range IO out of fire breath and just keep the 5 posi blast set.

If you are aiming to go for recharge maybe consider slotting entropic choas or decimation into fire blast instead. That'll give you another 5% recharge (providing you dont have 5 5% sets already). Same thing for Blaze as well.

For animate stone the expediant reinforcement set is good. 6.25% for 4 slots so may be worth sticking that in.

I dont have stamina on my build, and even with the new changes dont think I need it. If you want to have more power picks then maybe consider dropping the fitness pool. If you are aiming for permadom, that along with consume from your secondary is enough to keep your end topped up. You also have either power sink or dark consumption from the patrons to help as well.

Re patrons - I like ghost widow soley for soul drain. Its a nice boost to your dmg. When soul drain and fiery embrace is up (provided you are in a large enough team to get enough enemies) you can still operate at around 250 - 300% dmg. I just spam combustion in the middle of mobs after stunning them with stalagmites

Finally, I've found the earth set a very good one for procs, I have quite a few in my build.

Voltanic gases is very good for procs due to how it works and summoning all the little psuedo pets with each then having a chance to proc.

Earth quake is also a good place for the achilles heel chance for -res IO.

If you have any questions about the build or character then contact me in game (@Tufty) or catch me on the Handies forums

This is true ..my controller build has 15 procs.
My Dom has alot less.

Intresting tip for you but if you put the Sovereign Right resist bonus IO and the Expedient Reinforement resist bonus IO in to Animated Stone old stoneys resist are all in the 90% range.
