IO Set Bonuses

Hi

If I were to get some set bonuses so that a certain attribute such as accuracy was boosted by 40% would that be equivalent of me putting 40% Acc enhancement in each power?

Thanks

This makes doing a new build very complicated. Depending if I can get hold of (afford) certain sets will determine how many slots I need to use in powers ....

Not sure what's happening with G, haven't spoken to him in a while

It's not bad once you get used to it. Mids planner is a huge help with IO set builds. And with second builds, you can just make your ideal build (in terms of powers, numbers of slots in each) in your second build, and keep a playable build with SOs or standard IOs in the other build so you still have a playable character while you get all the sets together.

There aren't many IOs that are really that difficult to get ahold of, either. If you have a purple set planned in and know you won't be able to afford it for a long time, you can set an alternate slotting in Mids - say, slotting Decimations in a ranged attack until you can afford Apocalypse. In that way you can plan for both a short-term build and something more long-term for when you have the inf. I'm always surprised by how quickly I get the inf together once I plan something I really like the look of, though.

Sure, it's more complex than doing a standard build, but I don't think it's too difficult to adjust to if you're interested in it.

Just a warning on set bonuses, you can only have 5 of a specific bonus active as additional ones of that size and type don't count!

(Checkable in Mids btw.)

It's good, it's definitely preferable to the days without IO and the sets. You need a lot more knowledge and inf to be able to do the build but I think it will be much more satisfying once it is actually complete.

I've been playing for a month now after a long break, i've got a lot of catch up to do.

Can you use the same IO set more than once, I take it the bonuses just stack until you reach that 5 limit?

You can stack 5 of the same IO sets, but not 'unique' IOs (eg Numina's Convalescence: Regen/Recovery), and not purple sets (which are all uniques — though you could feasibly have 5 different purple sets).

Example: if you were to slot Numina's Convalescence on, say, a /WP scrapper, you could have one set of 6 (incl. Reg/Rec) and 4 sets of 5. You'd get the full set bonus from the 6-slotted set and 4 of the '5 piece' bonuses.

Set bonuses work on how the bonus is listed (have a look at peoples' Personal Info for an example of the listing), and as such there are a couple of exceptions to the "five of the same" rule —*for example, you could have 5 x 7.5% recharge bonuses from sets, PLUS 5 x the 7.5% Global Rech/Defense piece from the Luck of the Gambler set, as they're respectively listed as "Huge Recharge Bonus" and "Luck of the Gambler: Recharge Bonus".

As mentioned upthread, have a play around with this in Mids; I'm pretty sure that works per the game for these issues (though the current build of Mids does not list the new PvP sets, which have extra bonuses that only apply in PvP zones in addition to their PvE bonuses).

Say the bonuses give you +10% recharge speed, after ANY 5 sets give this bonus the sixth with it won't give you any bonus but a set with +7.5% recharge as a bonus would.

In Mids if you select the 'View Active Sets' button in the window that pops up on the right hand side where it says 'Effect Breakdown:' if you have exceeded the 5 identical bonuses you will see a message stating this and showing '>Cap' in red, if you scroll down the list you can see which bonus is causing it marked in red...

Note: You can adjust any of the sets giving this bonus to correct this issue, not just the one in the power marked, the lower one is highlighted as it would be the last selected as you leveled.

A little tip to anyone doing a build using Set IO's: Unless you got like 1.5+ billion inf sitting there you might want to check the prices of the recipes/enchancements before respeccing.

I wasn't expecting 150mil for 1 recipe there are still 4 to get in that set and another 5+ sets to go. At least the other sets are considerably cheaper.

I think completing this build really will give a great deal of satisfaction!!

Purple set recipe, I presume? There's price variance even within those - the less-used sets (eg Confuse, Stun) are a lot less expensive usually than the "Big 3" of Hecatomb (melee), Armageddon (pbaoe) and Apocalypse (ranged damage).

You just named three of the ones that I want

I will get cheaper sets until I can afford them. It might take a little while but I will get there eventually.

Crushing Impact isn't a bad placeholder for Hecatomb, if memory serves (and is a heck of a lot cheaper).

In all honesty you're probably best off running lots of level 50 TFs (ITF, Reichs, Lady Grey) —*that way you can ring up a fair few merits (and either stockpile for expensive recipes, or roll randoms), plus fighting level 50+ enemies means you're always in with a (sadly infinitesimal) purple drop chance.

Running Lady Grey's TF in particular is a public service to some extent, as completing it triggers a Rikti invasion which anyone can participate in (well, either heroside or villainside, anyway.)
