Here is my DM/SD build that I am about to spend lots of inf on. Before I blow silly amounts of inf could you guys cast an eye over it please? Its a PvE toon, Im not that bothered about an AV soloing build.

The attack chain I have in mind I found on the US boards:

Smite, MG, smite, SL

I have slotted for the soft cap and recharge so I can use the 3 power attack chain.

I have a fair bit of inf+merits saved up and would like a high end scrapper. Any help much appreciated

You're lucky you asked before you spent all of ya inf on this build

Your current build cannot run Smite>MG>Smite>SL.

To run this chain, you need:
Smite needs to recharge in 2.112 seconds
MG needs to recharge in 4.488
SL needs to recharge in 4.621 seconds

With Hasten on, you just barely have the recharge for Smite, more recharge than required in SL and not enough recharge in MG.

Put the five Hecatombs into MG (replace the damage with the acc/recharge). Put five Crushing Impacts (besides the Dam/Recharge) into SL. With this, you'll be able to run the attack chain.

Mid's displays Phalanx Fighting in-correctly. So you actually have less defence than you think. Alone, it only provides 3.75% +def to all positions. You're using it with providing 2.61% more defense than it actually will while solo.

So your actual positional defence is at: 42.9% melee, 44.9% ranged, and 41.7% AoE. Needing another 2.1% in melee, 0.1% in ranged, and 3.3% in AoE to softcap the three positionals.

Once, you've edited your build so it can run the attack chain, here's some of the slotting methods I'd reccomend using to softcap your positonals:

.Three BoTZ's in CJ

.Six slot DC with Obliterations

.Six slot BA with Red Fortunes

.Slot 3-5 Aegis into Tough

.Six slot True Grit or Health with Numina's

I reccomend them all to assist you on reaching the softcap. Maybe not so much on the Numina's, but if you need it to hit the softcap, it's something to consider.

Get some slots from:

.MG should be slotted with five Hecatombs (all but the damage one), so leave MG five slotted and get one slot from here

.The Eradication proc in SD isn't worth it

.Two slots from GC and leave it slotted with a LoTG: Global Rchg Speed IO

.Two slots from Weave and slot them into BA for more defence. Leave Weave 3-4 slotted with LoTG's, preferably.

.One slot from Health and a slot from True Grit, but it's not reccomended, so ONLY if you definately need the slots!

I hope this helps. If you would like to send future builds then I'll still be happy to examine them. Send them via forum PM, if you do. Contact me in-game aswell for any questions or queries. Global: @JeffJeffityJeff

I've made a few tweaks to your build. This gives you a little higher recharge, more HP, slightly higher resistances, softcaps the three positionals, and it can run the attack chain.

Thanks for the help Jeff. Tbh Im suprised no one has pulled me up about 5 slotting boxing at the very least

IO muling is more common than you would actually think

Quick question? Is it better to slot miracle +recover in health, and regen tissue +regen in true grit? Or the other way around? Regen tissue +regen in health and the miracle in true grit? Does it make a differance either way?

Posted

makes no diff unless you are sacrficing a heal enhancement to put it in there.

Thats what I thought but on mids it seems to make a diff so I thought I better ask, thanks for the answer

What difference did it make?

With the miracle in true grit and the regen tissue in health regen is 244%, when the procs are swapped (regen tissue in true grit and miracle in health) the regen rate is 262%

First off, I see Boxing 5-slotted with Absolute Amazement.
That's what Fallen Prey got in his build.
I tell you it's a waste of slots when there's Dark Blast EPP for Apocalypse which is actually a useful power.

Other than this, I don't understand a couple things about all the DM/Shields builds I see floating around.

1) A click mezz protection that requires to be on AUTO, yet I see Hasten in the builds too, which would have to be on AUTO as well.

Problem:
Clunky to work with, 1 of them has to be fired off manually.

Solution:
Drop Hasten, get Maneuvers or Hover instead.
Hover to slot 2x Zephirs and a LotG

Use Dark Blast in the attack chain, it's totally en par DPS wise, why's nobody doing this!

2) People pick up Tough (11,3% RES vs. S/L unslotted), yet they never slot Deflection for RES (11,3% RES vs. S/L unslotted).

Problem:
Gimps your build. You WILL get hit by (mostly) S/L type of damage at some point no matter your *softcap*.

Solution:
Properly slot Deflection for DEF and RES, e.g.

Level 1: Deflection
(A) Luck of the Gambler - Defense/Endurance: Level 50
(#) Luck of the Gambler - Defense: Level 50
(#) Luck of the Gambler - Recharge Speed: Level 50
(#) Resist Damage IO: Level 50
(#) HamiO:Ribosome Exposure
(#) Steadfast Protection - Resistance/+Def 3%: Level 30

Results in +17,4% RES vs. S/L

Total RES vs. S/L together with Tough and One With The Shield:
+17,4% RES vs. S/L (Deflection)
+17,6% RES vs. S/L (Tough, Ribosome Exposure x3)
+33,7% RES vs. ALL (One With The Shield, 2x RES IO)
---
=68,7% RES vs. S/L for 2 minutes every 6 minutes.

Go for it!

3) Phalanx Fighting

Useless power, 8' radius is too small to make it work.

Just a quick question? To get Dark Blast I need to take either torrent or pertifying gaze which means taking to powers to get 5 slots for purples? I have to take boxing anyway to get tough and weave.

So in your suggestion Im dropping 2 powers (hasten and phalanx fighting) and picking up 2. This how ever means taking dark EPP over body which means giving up a full set of gaussains and the 2.5% to all possitionals bonus.

You also suggest taking hover/maneuvers, any idea what else I should drop to pick one of those up? I cant see anything. If I picked up tactics I could still get the gausseins bonus but I cant fit it all in. Im playing with the build at the moment but I cant seem to get it over the soft cap.

As for manually firing hasten, I dont find this to much of a problem, its a little annoying but seeing as my defense is all toggles and takes care of itself I can manage fine.

Also I have yet to use hami-os in a build so I appreciate the advice about those.

Thanks for the advice, I will carry on playing with the build as I agree more resistance is always useful and if I can get it in and stay soft capped.

lol turns out that wasnt a quick question

Hi,

First off disregard my comment about Phalanx Fighting being useless.
It's not showing up correctly in Mid's.
Actually it has a default bonus to DEF which I only figured by some research after reading this thread over and looking into Mid's. (Now I need a respec lol)

Base DEF (solo) for scrapper should be 2,25% (unenhanceable)
with the bonus from allies being affected by enhancements.

Dark Blast vs. Boxing:
If you feel Boxing is a good attack go for it.
You could probably even incorporate it into your attack chain with a 6th slot DMG IO.
Dark Blast is a ranged attack though.

I see why you want FA, it's nice to have the extra ACC and To-Hit, personally I couldn't justify the hefty END drain though.

Keep Phalanx Fighting (reason see above)

6-slotted Lockdown in Petrifying Gaze for positional DEF and also damage bonus.

You mention your toon won't be for AV solo-ing.
Hasten is mostly for that IMO, Tight attack chain, Shield Charge and Soul Drain being up faster as well.

Keep Hasten if you go for max -RECH, I was just suggesting a way to have a solid attack chain that works w/o Hasten (Dark Blast for a filler).

My main reasons for not going Hasten is pretty much the clunkyness of managing 2 click powers every 2 minutes.
And 20 END drain can be a lot too.

What power to drop?
I dropped Grant Cover on my DM/SD.
When I pick up Phalanx Fighting after a re-spec, there's not much need for both Hover and CJ anymore.
Since you got SJ you're good with just CJ, I went for the extra CJ since my toon got Fly as the main travel power.

Looks like my ideas won't work for your scrapper, let me take another look at your build.

EDIT:
Here's my build, easier to see the differences (empty slot for the PvP IO +DEF)

Ok that makes things a lot clearer. I see what you are saying ~same defense and more resists. Thing is, although I have a fair bit of influence to throw at this build the 2nd +3% def IO is more than Im willing to pay for any enhancement, maybe one day when Im rich

Also I have just respeced into grant cover and I like the 15% extra -DEF debuff protection it gives. I really noticed the extra protection in mobs of Romans (btw focused acc was very useful there to)

Oh yes .. my DM scrapper will totally stay out of Cim 8)
Same as my SR scrapper lol
I got other toons for that, RES based.

About that PvP IO .. I'm still not sure myself, could move the slot to to Dark Blast and put a mundane END RED IO.

What level and server is your scrapper?
I wanna see it vs Romans

I never got what people were on about in Cim when my BS/SR ran through it, soft capped and feeling fine. But then on my soft capped DM/SR I had nothing but trouble and I cant work out how the BS/SR did so well now I look at it. Luckily I got all the swords before I found out how painful it should be on def based toons but I did solo 4 EB and some of their groups while the rest of the team was on the way back from a hospital break some how.

"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"

Maybe its coz the Romans are afraid of the dark?

Nope, the 2.25% part is from each person close you, total of two. And that portion is enhanceable.

Phalanx fighting will give you 3.75% def which isn't enhanceable and is always on.

Mids is indeed showing it wrong because it says with 1 player in range it gives a total of 6% def (3.75+2.25).
