My first mind troller

After a long break from controllers, I've decided to roll a Mind trolley. I was hoping you guys could help me figure out my secondary. I'm considering TA (which I've never played past L20), Rad (2 50's there and I know how good it is) and Kin (also 2 50's but it's always fun).

I'm a TF maniac, 100% PvE player (I might slap a villain or two when I step to PvP zones for temps and badges tho). I tend to do 4-5 TFs a week, especially high level ones (STF, ITF and SSTFs).

Now, I'm leaning towards TA but somehow the debuff numbers on troller side don't seem appealing to me. Hope you guys can convince me otherwise.

Cheers.

As a general rule, i avoid busy secondaries with Mind Control. I tried many secondaries with Mind (if memory serves except Storm and Sonic i tried them all).

Rad is the strongest option a Mind Troller can have. Bubbles and Sonic other possible easy to use ones. With Empathy or Thermal people want you to focus on secondary mostly (you can add Kinetics in here too i guess, because of the SB). My latest try was Mind/TA and i deleted him around level 14. After Rad, TA somewhat unimpressive. Also another thing to note, your mostly up AoE powers will be Mass Hypno and Terrify. I have doubts that will be enough to keep mobs in their place after TA's debuffs which are mostly have damage in them and make mobs run away (same applies for storm/freezing rain). So in the end i think TA or Storm will be better with other immob sets for much better effects.

If you want to focus on Mind (which has only 2 powers to spare in dire circumstance otherwise only 1) you can pick Bubbles or Sonic if you really don't want to roll another Rad.

For TFs, I am afraid Mind part is pretty weak versus AVs, not damagewise but as your biggest trick versus AVs is sleep you can't keep an AV on his/her place while your whole team is ganking on him/her. On the other hand, Mesmerize is awesome... Whenever things get wrong on STF while pulling 4 AVs one by one, usually i keep extra AV in his/her place with Mesmerize, Mass Hypno, Confuse, Mass Confuse circle. You can make sleep all AVs in that TFs with one hit Mesmerize, including big bad Lord Recluse himself or more feared Ghost Widow. As my main is Mind/Rad i also keep helping the team with Rad toggles. A bubbler or sonic troller can put AV in cage after making AV sleep too. Also people talk about putting pillars in cages which i never see in action and can't try yet as my only bubbler is still level 24.

That's my opinion about Mind Control and possible secondaries.

Okay addition to my earlier post.

A friend of mine told me Sonic will be better on a pet controller as you can put Disruption Field on your pet while soloing. I rolled one anyway, he is currently level 10 and going nice so far.

For that you really want a pet that likes to be in melee as opposed to using ranged attacks and it should also have good duration and not be too squishy - so good for /Ice or /Earth but probably of much less use on others. It's excellent on a team however - just remember it will need end reds

Oh i leave it out of my build entirely, i have enough endurance draining powers. My teams should settle with both sonic shields and Sonic Dispersion.

On a team build thats a huge mistake - the res debuff results in a very significant effective damage buff to everyone

I will take this into consideration, GM. Maybe i can get it into my build after i can afford an unique Numina IO.

I have a mind/kin that I currently have at lvl 41 and I love playing him. I mainly solo but do a bit of teaming with tfs and trails and the such like.

Knightly is right with Mind controls abilities on an AV and soloing EB's can also be a bit of a pain in the backside. The only way my poor mind/kin can go up against them and cause any kind of significant damage is to pop a few purples and damage them using the blackwand. If you dont have the blackwand then probably Knightlys tactic of sleep will do the trick but I dont have mass hypnosis so cant comment.

That said my mind/kin did have the easiest time doing the final mission of Mender Lazarus' TF solo (and I've tried it on several controllers all of who end up with more debt than a third world country). The secret was the mass hold and mass confusion supported by terrify - which is set defining in my opinion. When using siphon speed and hasten their recharge is pretty good so you can fire them off when being overran by the ambushes summoned by the EB's - when they're confused they even help you take the EBs and each other down (which is hardly surprising as that is the whole point). I would theorise the same would be true on a large group TF when the AV is surrounded by minions.

Something that I have noticed is that mind/kin is great for pulling. Siphon Power will pull quite well at a fairly good distance and I have noticed that if you slot confusion with a chance for damage proc you can pull an AV, EB or boss without bringing half his mob with him.I noticed this, again, on Mender Lazarus TF when you are taking on three EB's at the end and this tactic managed to separate them quite easily. I havent tried it on others but would suggest it may be worth an attempt on an STF or even the ITF to get Rommy away from his Nictus.

Also dont forget that a kin is a speed demon so getting perma-hasten isnt as bad (or expensive) as some other builds - but you'd know that having played a kin before.

One thing about mind control I've noticed is that its a really good damage set (AV's aside) from levels 1 to 40 but I've noticed after level 41 there tend to be a few more psionically resistant enemies about (the carnival, nemesis etc). Levitate is absolutely essential when soloing anything mechancial or the Ladies of Arachnos (dont even talk to me about Night Widows) because its the only thing that causes significant damage to psionically resistant enemies.

Those observations are just what I have experienced while playing the game. Hope that helps.
