So I started a new Empathy Defender, I got Golden Angel to level 30 and.. Well she sucked. Could deal no damage, and being able to heal like crazy meant little if my buffing and damage sucked. Empathy Arrow is currently level 21, and is miles better in terms of team work then Angel.. She is keeping everyone buffed, healed and still doing nice damage but how will this work out at 50?

What am I hoping for with Empathy Arrow? Good damage, good heals, great buffs and a little control at the end.

Soo anyways, here is the build. It is most likely terrible.

I'd say you want stamina when it's available, perhaps in place of Explosive Arrow? you'll need to ajust your powers as well though. The damage on it isn't that great at all anyway.

For Adrenalin Boost you don't need 3 end mods, it's pretty amazing as it is and it will stack with their stamina. Perhaps go with 3x heal and 3x recharge? Fortitude you don't really need 3 and 3, the to-hit is good anyway so perhaps 1x tohit, 2x recharge and 3x defbuff?

You don't really need 3 slots in health because you have healing aura which is far better and 'instant'. The slots could be used better elsewhere.

Is Explosive Arrow even worth taking? So far its been kinda.. Well iffy. The knockback doesn't happen often, and slotting it for damage seems like a waste when I could put those slots into Rain of Arrows.

Edit: I'll take Res.. Got enough damage moves as it is.

Personally I think that given you have stamina at level 20 I think you are being overly cautious with your slotting of end redux in your attacks - and not cautious enough with your buffs and heals. Firing off heal other or heal aura when the going gets tough is going to drain your endurance far more than your attacks will...

If I was changing your build I would do the following:

1) Take Recovery Aura down to 3 slots only (frees up 3 slots to use elsewhere) - just use recharge. I've had empaths who've 6 slotted this power and tbh I really think 3 slots of recharge is enough. The recovery you get from it out of the box is great...

2) Add an extra slot to Healing Aura and Heal Other and drop an end redux in both new slots

3) Add an extra slot to snap shot, change the slotting to: 1 x Acc, 3 x Dam, 1 x End Redux

4) Change the slotting on Aimed Shot, Fistful of Arrows and ranged shot to: 1 x Acc, 3 x Dam, 1 x End Redux (I'd say you could do this with Blazing Arrow as well and move the 6th slot you have there somewhere else. My vote would be to drop it on hover and have 2 x Fly enhances on it - but that's mostly personal preference... love hover on my empaths!)

5) Change the slotting on Fortitude to 3 x Def buff, 2 x recharge and 1 x end redux. I don't think this needs the to hit slotting really...

6) Potentially change one of the end redux's on Rain of Arrows to a recharge

I have an empathy/archery/body mastery defender without stamina and slotting similar to the above (or it was until I IO'd her build) and she doesn't runs out her endurance, she's able to do a little damage as well She feels very handy in teams!

I go by certain rules on a empath. If concept doesn't mean I have to take certain powers that is.

Stay out of melee when I don't have mez protection to AoE holds and sleeps. If I am zzz,d then I am not going to be quick enough.

The cast time of CM is bad enough. When someones held, the time it takes to CM someone is a long time in an empaths world. People have been known to get killed in the time it takes to CM. You could leave CM to a time period when it's safer to apply it but those moments don't always come about. Seeing that CM is 3.1s long, it's then safe to assume that any attack that is just as long or longer can have me caught in an action time while someone needs help. Usually any attack over 2s would be left on the shelf.

The DPE of an empath is poor compared to just about everyone else. This is good because you probably don't want a high threat level but poor in terms of damage contribution. Attacks that only hit 1 foe will offer less damage to group than attacks that hits say 16. Ideally I would then be attacking with a fast cast that hits 16 offering more damage to the group than I would otherwise offer. However AoE Knockback powers ill used can lower other peoples damage over time. In using a kb you could remove foes from within a blasters cone range making a cone attack unable to hit them all.

Elec Mastery's powersink would be okay stacked to short circuit. I can't see you having endurance problems to need it for your endurance. Stacked to Short Circuit you would get a group of enemies end down faster and keep it down easier forcing them into using low end cost attacks. Your more at risk in melee range than anywhere else though.

Base Tohit in fort is often good enough so, def and rechg is the main thing I would slot for. With SOs I'd be inclined to 3 dam, 1 acc, 1 end single target attacks then think about rechg for a 6th slot. On AoEs I'd be more interested in 3 dam, 1 acc 2 rechg for great dam to group over time.

Thanks for the replies. Taken note of some of the tips given to me in this thread along with other guides I have read about Empath and Arch. Here is my hopefully finished build.
Edit: Oh, just to point out.. The slotting levels are all off. I won't be waiting till level 40+ to slot my heals.. Just the way the slotted in the hero builder. ^^

Really looking forward to getting this gal to 50.

You might want to consider using the 2 build options to have a solo build and a team build. I did that with my empath and she has lots of damage potential (well - as much as an emp/dark can ever have) with just healing aura and the RA's for soloing with. The team build has all the empath powers as well as stealth/tp/flight/leadership for helping out her colleagues.

To expand on additional ways to increase how much of a boon you are to your allies, I would highlight the usefulness of both Grant Invisibility and Power Build Up of the Power Mastery epic pool.

Power Build Up's primary use is to increase the +Defense and +ToHit that Fortitude provides, and also Grant Invisibility's +Defense. Secondarily, it also increases the power of your heals while it lasts. It recharges fast enough to be able to keep a PBU-boosted Fortitude perma, along with 4 PBU-boosted Grant Invisibilities. With both of these slotted for defense, you can soft-cap somebody's defense, meaning most things will have minimum chance to hit them. The 3 others with the PBU'd Grant Invis (and possibly standard Fortitudes) will also get a quite significant +7% boost to their defense on top of Fortitude's 23%.

Grant Invisibility's usefulness is twofold. Firstly, simply the additional +Defense on top of Fortitude, then the fact that whoever has it is less likely to retain aggro or aggro pre-emptively. This goes a long way to assisting Tankers in holding aggro, providing you don't use grant invis on the Tankers.

In doing this, you can essentially make something like a Blaster so resilient that they can afford to be extremely reckless and mete out destruction with minimal risk of taking damage. It gives you the option of very potent single-target buffing. A Blaster that an Empath's soft-capped defense for and given CM+AB, and is aware of how buffed-up they are, is a frightening adversary.

Though of course this is just one way of playing Empaths, and one that focuses on preventative rather than remedial measures. I play mine in a manner where I try and prevent the need for healing through buffs using methods like the above. It seems to work.
