Getting bullied
There was a change to how the AI works and to those who 'just' spammed healed their team - now doing that will generate aggro towards the healer, even if they did no offensive moves.
That's interesting. It means that if the team is coping well then the empath stays safer due to healing so much less but in times of crisis gets a crosshair painted on them. In future I shall avoid mass healing in order to save my own skin.
They weren't DE or banished pantheon by any chance?
You know that if a mob of 17 is 70ft away and a tank taunts them and hides, 5 should come for the tank and 12 could come looking for anyone within their perception range. They will do a perception check on anyone and then go for who they've picked. For them to change their minds, usually someone else has to become a greater "threat". It is possible that you've been perception checked and nothing has made them perceive anyone else as a greater threat. Now some will argue that although the Devs can include in the AI of some enemies to go for a particular AT ie what Void Stalkers have, enemies haven't the AI to pick on the defender, but it has been noted how despite a scrapper wailing on an enemy, that enemy for some reason wants still wants the defender dead. We do know that there are enemies that stay locked on the first person they check but we don't know for sure whether or not there can be a random chance for it ie a enemy type a in 1 spawn has the AI to whilst the same type of enemy in another spawn doesn't.
I think though to avoid being a target most of the time you chance have to avoid the perception check and try to be lower in threat than everyone else. This is why mine has a stealth IO and SS.
I've read what the Devs have said on the matter but it's what they didn't "exactly" say which leaves possibilities open.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

So in times when we're rolling you're as useless as a chocolate hammer because you don't need to use most of your primary, and in times of crisis you're as useless as a chocolate hammer because you won't use most of your primary while the other squishies are going down around you?
Right.
Nothing wrong with a chocolate hammer - sounds very tasty

Clearly not a fan of sarcasm are you Paralux.
If I did indeed choose to stay away from the fight and not heal while my team mates fell under the sword I would still be useful though - I have tp and rez
Interesting thoughts on the different mob types. I shall have to make note of which baddies tend to try and maul me most. I'm not one for standing in front of tanks and tend to range heal more than area heal so when I dip into the fight it's usually just to shoot of a quick healing aura or RA before swooping back up to a safe position. This fact makes me think it might be code based rather than due to my physical position in a fight.
mmm. chocolate hammers.

I think you play like me in a sense. I rear guard from outside of aoe's as much as possible and shoot in for rare heal aura's (in fact if I am using a heal aura I consider the dynamics awry). You will rarely see irregular behaviour, but sometimes something is atypical and hard to explain sometimes happens.
If you understand other people powersets and the effectiveness of their powers then some things can easily brushed off as possibly down to something.

It's because you talk to much beks.
I think you'll find my chattiness gets me aggro from other heroes rather than the bad guys.
Nonsense, do you really take care of your team by spamming HA in times of crisis? Crisis for me means strong heals and good end management, meaning HO and AP with a healthy Fort on whoever is taking the most damage, to give them a defense boost. HA for me is only a response to an AoE and a means for healing myself, once I'm safely hovering above the melee.
Not sure anyone in this thread had mentioned spamming healing aura. The only times I auto-activate HA is during a rikti raid or on lag hill in the ITF and then it's due to the factor of lag and not out of a desire to create green numbers all over the place. Also there are times when using AP is a death warrant for an empath as the mobs are numerous and there are lots of AoE's going around. At those times a quick push of power build up and lots of HA/HO is exactly what's needed. I'm not saying that Heal Other is the primary heal for an empath but Healing Aura shouldn't be dismissed as means to heal AoE damage and nothing else.
Anywho - I'm going on a bit cos work is dull so I'll shut up now.
His reply was to TRT Beks, and most of us just wondered which thread he was reading cos it certainly didn't look like it is this one.

What who is replying to who and who now and who didnt read what?
Confuzzled
Oh and thread title fixed
Over the past couple of months whilst playing the game I have started wondering if certain types of baddies have been programmed to target defenders or more specifically in my case empaths. I have found myself in a number of situations where I have been using no offensive powers and have been doing the whole "pure healer" thing, yet have found myself pursued by half the mobs the team has encountered. I understand that occasionally one can get caught up in AoE mayhem but it seemed pretty odd to have the odd bad guy trying to close on me for melee fighting. Can anyone shed any light on what it might be causing this aggro?
