Defencively which is better, dark or willpower?
Dark probably would die first if you did nothing, since Dark Regen is one of the things that makes Dark god/good.

Dark is a very pro-active and more interesting set far from a switch off don't think about it set. This makes it more interesting. I quite fancy the idea of teams having to change how they play when with one at times as they theoretically could but that would be fantasizing. On anything what you'd hope to happen and what does happen are two different things even if you macro tells to make known your intentions.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
In 'a' mob or a group of 12 minions?
Totaly depends on the mobs. If you have 12, big chance WP will win (pretty sure he will). Put them against 1 warrior, dark will win (they have higher SL, while WP wont have enough regen to counter). Dark would hopefully be good enough with only his natural regen.
For anything that can survive kinda anything without doing anything (plain toggles), that would be granite.

The reason i ask is because I already have a granite, an invul and a shield tank on 50.
Whilst knowing fire is more offence than defence which personally i think as a PvE tank it isnt really suited. If your soloing or pvping though its a different story.
Dark has more resists which is makes up for with endurence drain but willpower has regen as well as a good balance of resists, whilst the resists arent as high as dark i was wanting to know how much of a difference the regen made really in a combat situation.
As I currently understand it would be as sinergy_x said, dark would last longer with lesser enemies whilst because of rise to the challenge on willpower the regen would go up a lot when more mobs are involved.
Im guessing thats how it is?
Either way they are both very strong defencive sets, granted dark is more offence than willpower but again, the endurence costs make up for it where as willpower has quick recovery.
Fire and dark are not that far from eachother though. They both miss a HP boost power, have no 'panic button' tier 9 and kinda rely on their heal abitily. SL resist they afaik even equality, its the remaining resist that makes a difference.
At the end it totaly depends wich mobs. Heavy SL or elemental, drain abilities or sortlike (get a pack of tsoo mobs, with their kinetic stuff)

Dark has much better aggro management than WP.
I really should do something about this signature.
WP is vastly superior (for the most part anyway) to dark in terms of survivability. Dark is a lot more active and therefore it can be argued its more fun to play (at least if you can handle the endurance consumption).
Granted I dont have a Dark tank and only a dark scrapper but I constantly have to keep an eye on the healthbar whereas with my WP tank i can stand next to an AV and go AFK.

People and their generalizing about fire tanks being more offensive than defensive... *mumble*
(no, nothing actually to offer the thread about darks or WP, just pointing out that fire is not all that bad numbers-wise when done with the defense in mind)

I meant "defense" as opposed to "offense", not opposed to "resistance"

If it was 12 minions I'd say the Dark as they'de be stunned, feared or both.

Ok guys as the post title suggests, which tanker primary is defencively the better choice, dark or willpower?
The arguement i have is that whilst dark has more resists, Willpower has regen.
So defencively speaking, if i were to stand in a mob and do nothing, which one out of these two would die first?
This is including all toggles but not clickys like stremgth of will.
