Doesnt work that way anymore, since travel suppression on the one shooting takes longer than on the one being shot at. Not to mention that even if one shot misses, the shooter still gets suppressed while the target does not.

I am aware of that and obviously speaking about pre i13 because frankly the new system sucks and is for people playing with one hand instead of two and watching TV at same time.

Personally, pressing alt+tab for targeting closest target while jumping and shooting is not a problem for me, so I wonder if the original breaking log suggestion would change much.

It would certainly change;

1 : Running away from someone. Just before getting out of LOS, hit placate, then change course completely.
2 : Targetting the annoying dominator hiding in the large group of masterminds after they have broken lock.
3 : Given that you target nearest mob when hitting a power, you may find yourself hurling blaze at a nearby hellion all of a sudden.

i.e. ... all the annoying things stalkers do with placate.

So yes, I think it would alter things quite a bit.

I wouldn't go quite as far as saying they're the only ones - there's a short tunnel in iirc BB and also the forested area with the BP masks - not that anyone pvps in BB anyway but good point and you might get some advantage on the oil rigs except for the mobs on them - easily fixable at least for the arena though by adding some tunnel/cavern maps and ideally some with both tunnel and open sections. Fixing it for zonal would be harder but there's a lot of devastated ground in Sirens that would lend itself to having tunnels caused by collaped buildings.
