If Midnight Guard's picture is as it is currently, if you change the rotation by 90 degrees then it won't fit the arm. Which would not only look odd but would counter intuitive as it wouldn't be protecting the arm. So you'd either have to make it much bigger or change the design completely which IMO would detract from it's current aesthetic value.
Less words = Unsigned.

Looks great in idle, but in combat it's kinda weird looking imo.

In so far as it has a eye on it but the same could be said for most of the Rularuu weapons

If you rotate it 90 then it will look great in combat and weird in idle. Can't have it both ways. 
The way it is now looks like it might be able to stab someone with it.
I actually don't think it'll look wierd in idle, more like how Cavalier shield sits atm.
I also said add the option to have it 90 degrees rotated for those who want it. Liek Rularuu 1 and 2 where 2 is rotated and 1 is like it is now.
That said, is it starting to grow on me now.
Add a second option to this shield, which is rotated 90 degrees. Would looks better imo!
