I'd like to see assault rifle, SMGs, knives, swords, you name it.
I got a revolver for one of my toons, which is there purely for RP purposes, but if I could get her something like an MP5, I might actually use it.

Well for AR and the like there is a good alternative. It even has its own archetype. Blaster for AR and Wolf Soldiers for the mp5 lookalike.
Both of which involve rolling a separate toon :/ ie not the desired outcome
Besides which, there is actually a perfectly good MP5 style model available to AR Blasters.

I know this isn't what you mean, but I'd like to see recipes for weapons to equip on weapon weilding powers. So a Bow recipe drops that you can add to the list of weapons your archery blaster already has.
As for OP's suggestion signed. 
I like Lost's suggestion, alongside the OPs suggestion. I know I use the revolver a lot on my stalker, for RP and for missions (The good old run-run-BOOM moments )

Exactly...
It'd be great if there were more weapons added to those you can currently invent. I'm talking about adding the temporary bow, shotgun and flash grenades to name but a few. So far I've yet to see anyone actually receive the shotgun for a bank side mission, whereas if we could invent them.....well I for one regularly use the invented revolver
