paying for EURO coh while working abroad
Maybe ask a family member or freind to pay for 12 months sub or however long you anticipate being away from home for, on an Irish card ? Then give them the money back.
The whole thing is stupid though, i agree.
Im confused so forgive me if i've got this wrong
Your Irish and i assume you liveed in irland and thats where your credit card is issued from
you've moved to canada on a tempory basis and you still want to play euro CoH
you tried to purchase a euro cyborg pack for your euro coh with your euro issued credit card but you were refused because atho everything is for the same region your not within that region.
if that's the case that's bloody stupid by the wording of there reply had you moved any where out of Ireland you would have had the same problem hell any one who's away even short term on business or visiting family will run into the same problem if the cross into another country.
As Londoner suggests your best option is probably to get a family member to use there credit card (or even your details) there are probably other ways round it as well such as using a VPN or a proxy server but i wouldn't like to give my card details thru one of them unless i was dam sure it was secure
I was able to borrow someones card here for it, is just something i wouldnt haave suspected, normally pay for coh in 3 month chunks anyhow, just glad i found out about this before this chunk ran out. After i was able to pay for my us acc last month, i certinly did not foresee any problem
just another headache to sort out, just glad i have some sort of credit rating here, many people in my position wouldnt.. and just a warning for others planning to travel away from home... any other main stream mmo (including US coh), will be fine, just not euro coh.
Use paypal.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
I had the same issue when I was visiting the states in 2006, and a friend of mine had a similar problem when he went to Austrailia for a year (I wound up paying for him and he transferred me the money).
I understand that it's some kind of fraud prevention (and yes, Paypal is an option, sometimes) and so we should be glad that they have our best interest at hearts - but it can be horribly annoying, I know. It still doesn't explain the shoddy response that you received.

Normally i dont post on these forums unless i have something to say...but Ive been around for nearly 3 years on the euro server...
Im Irish and was recently given the opertunity to work in canada on a tempory basis, which i obviously snapped up. I play many mmos, and natually didnt see a problem with paying for them on my normal credit card, since my money is still going to that account, with eve, aoc, and various soe games and even coh(us)(yes i play lots of mmos) this is not an issue... granted i had a lil trouble with eve(drastic ip change or some such, but was cleared after talking to the gms)
However...this is not the case with Euro coh...
I had been in contact with the gms when my cc was denied due to fraud suspicion when i tried to purchase a euro cyborg pack... while i was awaiting a responce i upgraded my us account with the same cc
short while after i got a responce from the gm in relation to the euro upgrade...
i did mention that i was able to upgrade my us account with no trouble what so ever

Unfortunately, credit cards which are foreign to the country you are living in are no longer authorised for use in PlayNC. We recommend that you use a credit card which was issued in your country of residence.

now i can understand the reasoning for this if it applied to the game in general... but it dosent
they have far stricter billing controls on far less popular euro servers than the more popular us servers.. strikes me at thevery least in business terms it should be the other way around... asked as to why this was the case, and the gm in question gave me a copy and paste of his last responce.
I cant believe how rediculous this is... if your going to enforce a standard.. do it game wise..not just limit it to one region, at best its just plain ignorance... at worst its plain discrimination..
I dont know... perhaps im flying off the handle because just to continue one of my favorite mmos.. im going to have to apply and get another cc here just for that is unbelievebaly frustrating
