Roleplaying SuperGroup on Union

Hi Everyone,

Question: How many COH RP PLAYERS (not characters) are there currently on Union ?

I'd guess around 190 (from the list since 2006 but I don't know how many are still here).

The thing is that I don't know who is a roleplayer and who isn't. I don't want to have to go to the RP list every time I meet someone.

I'm currently looking for a hero SG and wondered how many RP SG's there were. One of the things that concerns me is the number of roleplayers online when I log in. If there are only about 190 RP players and 23 RP SG's (listed but how many are still here ?) then it is tricky to find a good SG where there are people on. I don't know the exact number of RP SG's because the list doesn't look quite up to date.

Here's my thoughts: All Roleplayers have their characters join 1 or 2 RP SG's on Union. That way, there is good probablility of having a higher number of other players on at most times.

When people log on, they could immediately see all other roleplayers who are on and then create a team to do whatever they want (exploration, missions, sewers etc). I know that people like their SG themes e.g. the Olympians. Therefore, I'd suggest that they could create their own chat channel and they would be able to also form a team to do their own thing too. But they could also do stuff with any other roleplayer who is online. This would hold true for the SG that's into magic stuff.

Is it possible to give part of your base a theme e.g. Greek area or a mystical kind of thing ? If so, this would allow teams to hang out in specific areas as well as be able to interact with all the other roleplayers.

A good webpage would be needed to allow the different teams like the Olympians to schedule events and stuff.

My suggestion above is so that the roleplayers can form a really tight knit community.

Let me know what you all think and please keep it civil

And what exactly are you proposing happens to all the other RP SG's that are around once all RP toons are entered into these specially selected (or purpose built) 1 or 2 SG's?

Some of the groups around have a long, important history to them which actually defines the kind of characters that are members / they recruit, and as such I see very little incentive for them to follow your suggested course of action as it would pretty much kill off any sense of individuality between RP SG's

Then there's the groups which are MENT TO BE SMALL, a group of members who operate on their own, occasionally seeking outside help when needed. (thinking more of the themed teams and SG's here, kinda like the APache Longbow in the past, or more recently RAPIER) These deliberatly small groups wouldn't be small and secretive anymore, which kinda kills their concept.

Presonally, I really don't see this working, but for those that take it on-board and give it a whirl, I wish you the best of luck

Point taken about groups that are meant to be small and the histories of the SG's.

At least, could the lists of current RP SG's be updated ?

Is there any way to tell who is a roleplayer other than those people in your own SG ?

Yep, through the wonder that is conversation. I always find asking to be a great way to find out

I really do wish that we could go back and update our posts. Maybe then we could trim out the old ones. This is the problem with stickies that can't be updated. The only solution I can think of is to make a new one but even that would become outdated in time.

The dead giveaway would be seeing them speak or act in character while teaming with them. Personally, I don't RP in non-RP environments, it can irk some people. Best bet is to go to one of the social meets e.g. Galaxy Girl, Pocket D or even the proposed Villain meet up that's taking shape at the moment.

If I'm on an RP toon, my character bio always begins with ((Roleplayer)) stated clearly at the start. That said most of my toons are roleplayable, I just don't have the time to devote to all of them! I would also suggest having a look at the Wiki that's stickied at the top of this forum however I'm not sure that it's as up to date and beloved as it used to be.

As much as I see the sense in your suggestion, (we do form only a small portion of the community) I can't see every roleplayer willing to suddenly abandon their group's history for the sake of the convenience. Some people (myself included) are very proud of the groups they have built up and would take exception to your suggestion. The best way to meet new roleplayers is to meet and greet, team and build up a circle of friends, just like in real life. You'll also find communities spring up around chat channels such as GGOOC for example.

However, and this is the point I think I should stress, is that just in real life, just because people have something in common, there will be a wide spectrum of personalities who may or may not see eye to eye. There are many different flavours of roleplay and it's hard to reconcile differences between them. For example, there's a wide gulf between the casual gamer who likes to speak in character while teaming and the hardcore immersionist who has a detailed life story to the character and will delete them if they encountered a situation where they die. Bridging that gap is one of the many wonderful challenges of roleplaying with different people. Trying to cram them all under one roof may be a Herculean task.
