PvP Tankl

Never done any PvP before but I'm looking to roll out a fire/energy tank to give it a go. Anyone got any advice on PvP tanking in general or that power combination in particular. Thanks.

well from my own experience, taunting is not as useful as you'd think... masterminds like the leadership pool too much...

focus on single target damage i'd say... just having the word 'tanker' associated with you will get you more attention than taunt anyway, because everyone will wanna test out their maxed out moves on you

Yikes...not very helpful are you?

Anyways...learn as you go really. You won't be of much use before you get ET and TF at lvl 35 and 38 I'm afraid as those are your only big hitters. Bonesmashers ok but not great.

Fiery Aura:
Make sure you slot your resistances (obvious I know but still).
Skip Temperature Protection.
I would take Blazing Aura and Burn for levelling but skip it for PvP.
Consume...well...depends on playstyle whether you want to keep it for PvP or not.

Energy Melee:
Take Whirling Hands for levelling but skip for PvP.
Energy Punch is pretty bad and I would probably skip it both for PvE and PvP.
Actually never really used Stun (or needed it) so I'm not sure what to say here.
Must haves are. Build Up, Energy Transfer, Total Focus and to a lesser extent Bonesmasher.
Special note: Taunts a musthave for team PvP but obviously not needed if you just wish to duel.

Other than that dip into the leaping, speed and fitness pool.

Hope that was a bit more helpful.

Yes but I can't even spell tank properly ( has anyone seen my Tankl? )

may seem obvious but then I can't even spell tank (err I think my embaressment might be showing)

Skip Temperature Protection.

Yes it looked kinda week

I would take Blazing Aura and Burn for levelling but skip it for PvP.

Isn't blazing aura my taunt arua and as so is it wise to drop it as I will mostly be partaking in group PvP. Also burn is immob protection do you think the leaping pool is better for that, I'm usually a superspeeder as it follows hasten would leap be a better option as it gives you some vertical movement?

Consume...well...depends on playstyle whether you want to keep it for PvP or not.

Think this will depend on my end managment

Energy Melee:
Take Whirling Hands for levelling but skip for PvP.
Energy Punch is pretty bad and I would probably skip it both for PvE and PvP.

Whirling hands I'd agree, can't imagine engaging more than 2 or 3 at a time making the damage rather week, Energy punch has a small stun effect though which might stack depends if my attack chain is lacking really I thnk

Actually never really used Stun (or needed it) so I'm not sure what to say here.

This I was quite attracted to as the idea of stacking stuns to stun the 'unstunnable' could give you an element of surprise

Must haves are. Build Up, Energy Transfer, Total Focus and to a lesser extent Bonesmasher.

Looks good to me

Special note: Taunts a musthave for team PvP but obviously not needed if you just wish to duel.

I see the leaping pool as the knarley problem here:- Combat Jumping- immob protection but without the dmg effect burn provides, Super jump - usually take SS as travel power as it follows hasten so is the vertical potential worth the extra power slot, Acrobatics-3 slots is expensive for kb protection. So I'm unsure how deep to venture into this pool if at all

Hope that was a bit more helpful.

Yes great cheers

The "not helpful" remark wasnt aimed at you

About the stuns. You don't really need the added stun from Energy Punch and Stun because tank energy melee stuns a helluvalot™

You NEED the leaping pool. Combat Jumping is an absolute must for PvP...especially for a melee toon. You simply need the movement it gives and not to mention the immob protection. Burn is too slow to use in PvP.
Super Jump is also close to be a must + as a Fire tank Acrobatics is a must too or you'll spend the majority of a fight on your back.
