Soloing

Oh, since the OP's MM could solo AVs easily I was under the impression that was one of the requirements. Thought everyone was suggesting builds that solos AVs... silly little old me...

After all, any AT can solo to lvl 50. It's just more or less easy and/or fast.

Wow, there sure seems to be a lot of power combinations that solo AVs easily! I must be making the wrong choices...some of my toons have trouble with EBs... :-(

Do you need to IO your toons out to take on AVs? Use a lot of Temp powers like Shivans? Any tips would be appreciated.

I was certainly under the impression that the OP just wanted to know good soloing combinations, i.e. that would be fast/efficient/survivable and wouldn't run into any missions they couldn't ever do on any difficulty. I thought it was common knowledge that Ill/Rad is pretty much the only choice blueside if you want to solo AVs reliably (some other combos can do it with certain AVs with varying success).

To solo AVs you really need -regen debuffing (hence /rad, because trollers don't get /dark or /poison or /cold or /traps, and /kin's -regen is fairly minor albeit spammable), something to absorb the punishment and hold the AV's attention (illu/'s phantom army) and some decent damage on top (/rad's -res debuffing helps, and the damage from illu/ and EPPs). I mean sure, a granite tanker can probably weather AV damage unsupported, but even with /EM I doubt they could outpace the crazy regen on most AVs, even if they were IO'd up to the hilt (I may be wrong - I have no plans to ever play a granite, let alone purple one up).

If you struggle with EBs solo, Ghostwind, then sure a shivan can help, but I rarely use them solo - overloading with insps can be a bigger help - that gets some of my characters through specific EB fights they would otherwise struggle with - usually a few purple Lucks is enough to keep my character safe, but with my stalkers/blasters I might go for red insps instead (kill them before they kill me). Depends on the character, the EB, and the strengths/weaknesses of both.

I have plenty of toons and most of them solo EBs just fine. Some of my toons even do it "like the wind", as you say, depending on the EB. However some need help in the form of shivans. Silver Mantis for instance was a pain for my MA/regen stalker before the recent stalker buffs. She is easy enough now.

None of my toons seem able to solo an AV. I can't say that I've tried really.

EBs even those running under AV code are never going to be impossible to a competent player. AVs that are actual AVs are a different matter.

I recently completed the faultline arcs where I face Arbiter Sands as an EB several times, because he is an AV stepped down to an EB he still has the little purple triangles that stop him getting held properly... in fact I found him all but impossible to hold even with two controllers stacking their holds, plus both rad debuff toggles (one of each). I did kill him in the end but it was a hard fought battle.

On my fire/kins I have done all the AVs as EBs offered by Tina and Unai in Peregrine, plus the GMs as EBs (Psychic Babbage, King, Adamaster... etc). With my fire/kins being significantly higher with better slotting (damage as well as accuracy) I found these EBs to be a push over but I doubt they'd have been easy as AVs or if I was only playing a single character.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about Heat Exhaustion - maybe because it's new on controllers, or more likely because it's tucked after all those shields/heals so my brain doesn't register Thermal as a debuff set (which is where my interest lies when picking corr/troller/mm secondaries).

That's probably also the reason a dedicated AV-killer build would still want /rad instead - the illu pets don't need the shields/heals so /rad's extra debuffs would be far more useful.
