Blaster-Psychic/Mental Manipulation: good for pvp?

Hey guys, playing for 27 months now, I've dabbled in pvp a fair bit, but with nowadays find that I get battered by most in pvp. I'm looking to create a toon purely for pvp, and be able to stand his ground. I have a lvl 50 Brute SS/INV, who is useless for pvp. I made a Blaster for pvp with Elec/NRG and find although his damage is quite good, his damage resistance is awful, I've been one hitted (the shame). I started to make a Blaster with Psychic/Mental though a pvp mate said its awful! Is this true? I really NEED to find a good pvp character and would appreciate your advice guys.

Psi primary is ok.Mental manipulation for pvp = no no.

Pretty much energy is the only secondary that can really make a difference for PvP.

Only because of Boost Range, really. Which is a bit sad.

/Mental falls in to the same group as /Fire, good fun set which is sexy in PvE. In PvP however the combination of PBAoE toggles and attacks is a definite disadvantage over better single target ones in /Elec or /Energy.

That's not to say it's bad in PvP. I'd probably rate it after Fire Melee, but before Ice Melee. I'd probably list secondaries as: Energy>Elec>Fire>Psi>Ice>Dev.

These days though your Secondary should compliment your Primary in PvP for Blasting so depending how you play it might not make much difference, gone are the days of OP toggle drops.

I think it will be pretty decent in pvp - psy blast and a build up is gonna be pretty decent combined with ranged fear could be very useful. Mental also allows you to take a lot of your primary including the snipe and stun which means you have lots of mez in your arsenal. Probably have a lot of fun with it although you will always be envious of /em and boost range .. I know I was when playing my ice/elec!

Level 1: Mental Blast Empty(A)
Level 1: Subdual Empty(A)
Level 2: Telekinetic Blast Empty(A)
Level 4: Mind Probe Empty(A)
Level 6: Aim Empty(A)
Level 8: Will Domination Empty(A)
Level 10: Swift Empty(A)
Level 12: Psionic Lance Empty(A)
Level 14: Health Empty(A)
Level 16: Build Up Empty(A)
Level 18: Combat Jumping Empty(A)
Level 20: Stamina Empty(A)
Level 22: Super Jump Empty(A)
Level 24: Acrobatics Empty(A)
Level 26: Scramble Thoughts Empty(A)
Level 28: Hasten Empty(A)
Level 30: Super Speed Empty(A)
Level 32: Psychic Wail Empty(A)
Level 35: Scare Empty(A)
Level 38: Telekinetic Thrust Empty(A)
Level 41: Snow Storm Empty(A)
Level 44: Frozen Armor Empty(A)
Level 47: Hibernate Empty(A)
Level 49: Stealth Empty(A)
------------

You have a ranged immob, stun, sleep, kb, fear and a snipe and nuke I think you could do some damage with that. Just because something isnt the best doesnt mean a good player cant do well with it and it will be more enjoyable to level up than a psy/em.

I'd like to clarify when I semi-rated secondaries, I meant it in terms of damage output rather than utility.

Yeah, with regard to the Mental Manipulation, I was thinking of it from a holding, confusing view, rather then pure damage. Plan is to immobilise, then kick seven shades of **** out of em. Just wondering would the Mental Manipulation be good in pvp? When I try with my Elec/NRG Blaster his damage is quite good but his dam resist is awful and find myself one hitted in RV.

Well /elec and /ice both have a Hold in which you could stack with one from your Ancillary Power Pool. The Fear's nice though, it won't drop toggles but it can be annoying as hell.

Having been teleported into a Devices Blasters soup of prelaid caltrops and trip mines, then been hit with a Smoke Grenade on top of his stealth, I submit that Dev can be quite frightening in PvP if you are susceptible to TP foe. I imagine the +perception is a welcome addition, and the -recharge from Web grenade is not to be sniffed at either.
