Slight problem
[ QUOTE ]
OK I have 2x Dom, one is 22 plant/fire the other is 17 grav/psi.. Now I rolled the Grav/psi, as I just love the idea of Singularity, but i'm runing into a few problems..
When I play Plant/fire, it's np, group all seem to know exactly what my powers are doing and the effects are pretty darn obvious..
On the other Hand Grav/psi just seems to confuse everyone, the effects arn't very obvious and Dimension Shift is more likely to kill the group than save them it seems, as members in pugs seem to ignore the free mobs and are determined to keep wacking away at the shifted enemys.... (guess they don't use the idea of if your not effecting somthing move on"
With the confusion DS can cause i'm almost dreading worm hole.. If I WH a group, are my group going to be dumb and just run blindly into the next lot ? or do groups get abit smarter at higher lev?
So the big question is Is grav/psi worth it, or should I just give in and use a powerset that dummies can understand... "ooooh look at the pretty flames"

hehe, the very first toon I rolled was The Defuser, a grav/psi dominator that had lost his arm defusing an atomic bomb... really nice story...
What i saw from teamin with that toon is that TEAMS LEARN... I mean, the first time I used WH in a mob, the team went confused, like 'ey, wheres the bad boy i was punchin??'.
Then I used in the 2nd time, and the team started to see whats the point of doin that... Something like 'Ey, if this dominator packs the enemies in a wall, then i can use my AoEs better...'
Then after a mish u notice that all the team is awaiting, watching a corner, for u to open with wormhole...
That is dominating...
PS: be patient, grav/psi is a late bloomer, if ur team dont understand u, go for another team
Cheers.
Thanks, I realy like my grav/psi, as I personaly find my plant/fire far too easy (though admit throwing all that flashy fire effects is fun for a mission or two :P )
Just wish I could find more groups, they seem be alot more scarce at 17..
Dimension Shift is very debatable, is it a worthwhile power in the long run? Perchance not, my controller never required it and I don't really like intangibles for the reasons you stated: People still attack them, probably attack the intanged more so (more on that later).
BUT is it a good power? Well ask any group that's had two/three/four mobs get aggro'd at once and suddenly half of them stopped attacking. I know from Dom Night that our Grav has saved our [censored] a number of times with 'Calm down dear, it's only Dimension Shift'. That's something to consider, bind a key to say you're using that power.
It really can save skins. Smart skins. Smart skins that notice 'unaffected' text above their heads. Smart skins that notice 'unaffected' text above their heads and that someone else without the wibble aura is still shooting them.
It is very 'showy' in terms of effecting your enemy, which is probably the reason why people attack them, meanwhile the actual holds and immobs of grav are sleight..well except the whole 'why iz I floating, me no have fly!11' of mobs.
Wormhole however is very tasty. Tasty because it has a unique action.
You see it has a 'range' for use, if you select a mob whilst out of range and then chose your 'wormhole to' spot, then you get the 'Out of Range' over your head. But the power is still slotted for use just like any other range power.
Walk into range you will suddenly perform the WH action and BADABING! the mob gets wormholed to your original selected outside the original range. This means you can really start pulling mobs to locations that suit you and your team, debuff patches can be set, anchors can be slotted ready for in-range use, you bring the mobs to them, all bunched up neatly in a corner.
Another tidbit if you have Fly/Hover then you can even use the floor as your corner and throw them down packed onto it, though you have to be in range as you need to be pushing vertical towards the floor. Any movements otherwise would cause you to angle the hole and cause a 'spill'.
But do what I did, test the [censored] out of it against lowbie packed mobs in Cap Au, it's seriously good fun and you have all the range to test out the unique quirks.

Just to clarify, stupid people level just as well (if not ironically better) than smarter people. It amazes me how many stupid players behind stupid toons with stupid..and I mean stuuuuuuupiiiiiiiid power choices get to 50.
*gets killed by random 50s*

Binds are your friend in this case.
I will always remember laughing hard when I first say the infamous "Calm down dear, its only dimension shift!" bind.
As others said, communication may be the solution for your problem. If you don't have the time to tell them how your powers work before the fight, you will have plenty after the first team wipe
There are many powers and tactics that need explanation to work in a team (anchor-type powers, herding, stalk n run, and so on), so don't be shy telling yours
I never realised that my bind was so popular
DS is a great utility power and I only really use it when I've made a judgement call that the team is in over it's head. Sometimes you make a bad call and fire it off when it's not needed - but it's not necessarily a bad thing villain-side. Doms can build domination from intangible enemies, brutes can maintain fury, stalkers can use the time to get back into hide, MMs can use it to resummon or buff pets and corruptors can, erm, twiddle their thumbs.
Some people use DS as a way of thinning out the mob by not slotting it for acc so that it will take a few enemies out of the fight. I personally prefer it to take out an entire group.
Also it's one of the few powers in the game that you can actually increase the magnitude of. I have 3x intang enhancements slotted and can easily phase an AV/Hero when domination is up. Very useful if your team stumble into an AV and they're not ready.
It has its uses solo too. For example, if you have a tough EB fight ahead of you and dom isnt ready you can hit the EB with DS and build domination in total safety.
Can you tell I love DS?

Shame DS doesn't work on team mates...
