Themed SGs

Hey!

I was wondering how many themed SGs exist on Defiant?

I know about:

- us of course (the elfling SGs - there are 2 heroic SGs and 2 villain VGs)

- The Taxi group (if they are still alive?)

- The Diddys (small characters with the surname Diddy)

- The Hive (yellow and black striped charaters with wings)

- The Tramps (scruffy looking characters with the surname Tramp)

- The Crackdown Kats (characters with feline face and a tail)

If you know about any other SGs let me know or if the info I have on the groups are incorrect please correct me!

I'd like to hear what your experiences with themed SGs are.
It seem to me that they don't last for very long.
Maybe it's because when the 'inventor' of the theme is gone the SG falls apart?
Or is it because people don't like themed groups?

Hi, there was a superteam formed here on Defiant a long while ago. It was a struggle to form it, here on the forums, but eventually it kicked off with four friends of mine and four others. The leader worked hard and even leveled himself and most of the team into the late thirties, but inevitably, people simply could not commit. They lost interest in the game mechanics or the repetition of the same old thing, same old team got to them, or maybe just that they had to return to playing their 'main' hero. Thats my guess at why it didnt work. The theme was loose - fiery individuals, with fire control abilities. Essentially a Fire/Rad Controller superteam and an SG called Children of the Phoenix. Although it was fun while it lasted, it could have been much, much better. Only a fifth of the team's full potential was explored.

On the flip side, a sucessful and themed superteam however is my villain group; the Gang on the Union server. Criminal masterminds from all around the world in one underground syndicate. I think the main reason it's more successful than most is that its very loose; all that is expected from each member are Thugs henchmen. (Extra leadership buffs also prefered).

Something that I've learnt, is that when a supergroup is funny, entertaining, [b]enjoyable[b], constant with teaming and efficient at 'progressing' through levels, it wont fail. Hope thats good advice/information. Bye.

There's The Institute for Gifted Catgirls (All the toons are female with cat ears, feline faces and cat tails.)
"Saving the city one kitten at a time."

I am a member of the "Men in Tights", which is based on the Robin Hood spoof by Mel Brooks. To get into our SG you must be a TA/Archery Defender. We have only been going for a month or so, and interest has waned at the moment due to I9, but in june we take to the glen again....arrows everywhere!

Yup, I'm the leader of the Men in Tights. As Nine "Blinkin" Claws said, we've only been going about a month, so if anyone's interested in signing up, let me know!
Only requirements are: TA/A Defenders only; banter a-plenty, and a clichéd cosie goes down well too!

PS - we have rez and healing arrows (honest!) sign up to get yours!

As one of the leaders of The Diddys I am happy to say we are going from strength to strength. Anyone is welcome although its not the surname, we are all Diddy (something) and small as you can imagine, and just be prepared to have fun So far everyone has been really gettin into their small personalities with mad mad binds

We have the Diddy's channel if anyone wants to join the SG - just make the smallest toon you can on Defiant and call it Diddy [something]. As many poeple alt the chat channel keeps us all in contact.

Cya in game

Thanks - it was nice to hear somthing about you all.

The Men In Tights sounds like a really funny idea!

I do agree with Pistol that it's hard to keep up "hard restrictions" on requirements for the members.
I thought that the 4 rules of the elflings:

- minimal height (long legs allowed

- green hair

- pointy ears

- surname 'Elfling'

would be fairly easy for people to accept, as there are no restrictions on powers or origin - but I was wrong!

Despite this we have existed since september 2005, and during this period I have been very strict with people to make our SGs a bit more exclusive and not stray from the original idea. (Maybe that's why they call me the Boss(y) Lady?)
I think the reason we still exist is because we have some very active, enthusiastic and chatty members who have build this whole community up.
None of us knew each other before we started the elfling SGs - but we do now, and we have had a couple of nice elfling meetings (involving a pub and beers and plans for solving the world's problem - in that order).

I'm not sure what will happen to the 4 elfling groups on Defiant if I ever stop playing the game (that's gonna be when I'm around 90 and can't hit the keys nomore), but I think that the other elflings have gotten so addicted to elfling characters that one of the younger could take over my place and run it for another 90 years...
