Medicine pool vs. defense boosting pool powers

Hi,

My bro and I are having a debate and can't decide on which way to go.

We both have a kat/sr and have pretty much identical builds, but cant decide between some pool powers.

In my build, i take all of the /sr powers and also the medi pool (stimulant and aid self). In his build he takes leaping: combat jumping and leadership: maneuvers to increase his defence.

I must admit, even just with combat jumping it does give him a quite a few % increase over my build.

What I guess I would like is people's opinions on either having aid self, or cj etc.

Also, he does not plan on taking fightin pool (tough & weave) as weave takes a lot of endurance for what little defence it takes. I think according to hero builder CJ actually gives a better defence anyway (espcially with maneuvers).

So guys, gals, 'n things... what do you think?

/SR doesn't have a self heal so the medicine pool makes a lot of sense. CJ doesn't give that much defence (about 5% 3-slotted I think) and /SR doesnt need it for the status protection. So it's only worth it if super jump is gonna be your travel power (Flitz has TP). Fighting pool also not worth it for /SR, certainly not for weave.

Well, Weave actually gives more defense than Maneuvers at a similar (I think lower) end cost that Maneuvers (if I recall correctly). Most of ppl will advice Medicine Pool, only a DM/SR is able to skip it due to Siphone Life although most ppl don't find Siphon Life enough healing (I do, but that's me). Problem with swords and fighting pool is that you have to waste a power choice since boxing/kick are pretty much useless due to the redraw issue. I personally would skip travel power, use the combo sprint - hurdle - combat jumping which can be decently boosted with some I9 sets and go for Aid Other (or Stimulant) - Aid Self and Weave as a general advice. If you want to do things on a more challenging way, you could boost your regeneration rate with some I9 set bonuses and skip again travel power plus medicine pool this time, going then for Maneuvers - Boxing - Tough - Weave and making sure you always carry greens, although this last option makes more sense on a DM/SR and is far more difficult on a Katana.

CJ is 3% with base slot defense and 4.15% 3 slotted if my hero planner is right. On same hero planner, Maneuvers 3 defbuff slotted grants 3.9% def to all dmg but psionics plus 3.9% positional defense to melee/ranged dmg with 0.295 end usage 1 endrdx slotted while Weave grants 5.1% def 3 defbuff slotted to smahing / lethal dmg plus 5.1% positional to Melee / Range and an end usage of 0.251 1 end rdx slotted, this is from Sherksilver's Hero Builder so it could be not updated.

When we get high enough we will have to see how it goes. Me with medicine and him with cj and stuff.

Will be a while so will have to see how each of our builds cope with PVE.

Actually that is a great idea, try different builds so you can see the strengths and weaknesses of each build by yourselves and then choose the option that provides more fun when playing your toons. Being a devoted scrapper myself and enjoying /SR the most, it would also be great if in the future you guys post something about how have you found the different builds etc..., it is always valuable to know this kind of things IMHO.

Both of us are only lvl14 at the moment so will have to see what happens when we reach level 30 or so (so it can be slotted a bit).

If I remember I will post the results (digs out calendar).
