29/03/07: Pocket D Speed Meet 8pm
((Please make sure that you have the Request channel active on your chat window, because DJ Zero's announcements will take place on that channel. The Announcements will cover the starting rules, and the announcements to change who you're talking to.))
How did it go last night? I tried to make it but forgot I had to get ready to crew a LRP event this weekend..And before I could prod people from the Infinity Foundation, or DefConOne I crashed
Well, it was a slow start at the begining, with 4 people there including myself, but at the end of the meet at 21.20 there was about 12 people there.
I thought it was a little higher than that, Zortel, and think I counted 17 or 18 participants in total (it was hard to tell if a couple on the periphery were speed meeting, or just talking together at the end).
In short, a successful event that I think many enjoyed, but also one that a lot of characters (not players) ridiculed at the upstairs bar (much like life), especially those who had left coming to the bar until late just to avoid the 'speed dating thing'.
All in all a great RP event as even those choosing not to be involved got some RP mileage out of not being involved.

Hmm, thinking back...
Number Nine, Miss Ellie, Grav Mistress, Cambo, Krazeer, Mr. Torch, Subject Anjel, Solar... Flame? (I forget, I just call him Solar!), Slyx (? Natayla), Shadowe, Lyn Legend, Nightschild and Bay State Ranger were observing, I know I've missed a few.
I think I'll probably run one next month, perhaps on.. Wednesday 26th April.

I think that's kind of a shame really, as the speed meet also had an OOC purpose of helping players "break the ice" with characters they don't know, and hopefully increasing the number of players they can interact with in RP.
But I guess if players want to continue to RP with just the same people all the time, that's perfectly OK too, but it's a pity they decided to ridicule it with their characters.

Sorry for any confusion there. I didn't see any players ridicule it, only characters who would obviously and predictably do so IC. I did not see any player use their character in a way that was in the slightest bit OOC for them who was involved in the ridicule.
It was certain characters who viewed the 'speed meeting' as one of those things for people who can't make friends normally. The very high percentage of women present at the speed meet, over the male attendance, did nothing to assuage characters who'd seen the whole thing as a 'meat market' event for scantily clad heroines to erm... further their 'recreational exercise' opportunities

Well, bear in mind that my char is actually a happily married former hero, and was there mainly because she no longer resides in Paragon and thus doesn't get a lot of opportunity to meet new people. Her partner was at the event too.
And I didn't say there was any OOC ridiculing going on. I just think it's a shame that people did so IC, especially given Zortel's hard work in making the event work!

Well, considering some of those IC people are villains, they live to exploit and plunder the hard work of others.
Of course, my own villain loved the opportunity to make new contacts for his Public Relations and Image Management agency. He's a very social and charming villain though, who sees himself as quite the hard-working good guy. Just somewhat 'ambitious', which is a virtue right?

Ah, [censored], I missed that
Z is thinking of running another one towards the end of the month!

I'll try to not miss the next then, I have an alien to send in.
Indeed, and just realised, it's Wednesday 25th April, not the 26th. I'll be making the poster soon. Thankfully I still have the Pocket D logo saved, and have photos of the first speedmeet to add in.
Ah, can't make Wednesdays as it is the regular weeknight for the Hyperion Watchmen to team, but have a good one.

The posters are going up, placed around Pocket D, and over the Rogue Isles and Paragon City. DJ Zero has ordered in the extra drinks needed. For coming on Thursday 29th March at 8 o'clock in the evening, is an event like no other, where heroes, villains, civillians, anyone can meet up with people in America's first Interdimensional Night Club to socialize with others.
With at least 10 minutes to chat with someone, people are already getting ready, wondering who they'll meet and what they'll discuss, nervous as to if they'll fit in, or meet someone they could fall in love with, or someone to loathe, or even just someone to talk to about the Paragon 49'ers last game.
What will you do? Who will you meet? What will you say?
Only one way to find out...
The Pocket D Speed Meet Poster, being put up in various places in the isles and the city!
