MA/Inv Scrapper Advice

I recently started playing with a MA/Inv Scrapper which I'm enjoying hugely.

I've had only a little experience with either powerset before so I have a few questions. (My toon is intended purely for PvE play.)

1. Right now I'm veering between two kinds of builds. The first takes every Inv power (except maybe Resist Elements and Resist Energies) and Tough and Weave to make a very defensive fighter.

The second ignores the auto-powers in Inv and the Fighting Pool, in favour of more attacks and Hasten - the idea being an improved offense is better than stronger defences, to get fights done faster.

Which of these build philosophies do you think would work better for a MA Scrapper?

2. Is it worth getting Tough and/or Weave at all?

3. What about Resist Elements and Resist Energies?

4. What about Hasten? This is my first Scrapper and while most of my toons end up with Hasten eventually, MA seems to recharge fast enough on its own.

I found with my scrapper that you can only go so far defensively. Often your best damage mitigation is fighting things really quickly. As a scrapper you are normally invited to teams to do damage, similarly solo you really only need basic defences and good offence to survive against most opponents. In the case where you are needed for your toughness, a defnder primary or controller secondary can usually bring far more to you ( and the team ) defensively than any power pool could.

Hasten is good on a scrapper. In fact it is pretty good on most toons. Scrapper attacks tend to chain quite easily due to their long animation times, but the later attacks are far better than the first ones. So hasten brings the big attacks back earlier which can make a big difference. It also is good for getting Dull Pain up more often.

My recent experience with an Inv scrapper is with a Katana/Inv and I grew so fond of the Inv poweset that now I have a MA/Inv lvl 8. I personally feel that the passives may be the difference between a regular build and a great build. Besides, I took Tough in my Katana/Inv and I noticed a big difference with tough 4 slotted, it was worth to have a useless power like boxing for a sword wielder in order to get tough, in your case having barehand attacks you can do better use of boxing or kick, therefore I would advise you to it. Attackwise, bear in mind that with your Invinicbility 6 slotted (3defbuff - 3tohitbuff) plus focused accuracy 6 slotted (3endrdx - 3tohitbuff) plus the 10% accuracy bonus of MA, you can create the most accurate scrapper in game (can also complement with Leadership pool) so my advise would be to go for full Inv pool since that will at the same time boost your attacks with accuracy. On weave, I'm not that fond of it, I would take hasten instead but at high levels.

1. I've been playing an /invuln scrapper since I3 and I can say it's definitely worth getting the 2 passives, each give you almost 7% (which is about 1/3 of the elemental resistance you will get) resistance with just 1 slot on them. Tough is fine if you can find the space for it, weave isnt worth it in any case.
I recommend getting the passives, but not necessarily tough or weave (posting a build later)

2. Tough: maybe, I still wouldnt recommend it...
Weave: never

3. Get them, just leave them with the 1 slot. As I previously mentioned, they'll give you 33% of your elemental resists.

4. Get it, it is really nice dps boost and brings up your only heal more often.

So, posting now my build and telling some reasons behind it:

All invuln powers: Well, you want maximum survivability dont you? I have played an invuln scrapper since I3 and I've had all the invuln powers since I5 and never regret it, never had tough or weave and never felt I needed them either.

LBE: you want a ranged attack, especially with MA which has no redraw.

Invincibility and other toggle slotting:
FA: well, you can work out this one yourself
Unyielding: This one doesnt eat that much end but I have 2 endreds in all my invuln toggles on my invuln scrapper to be able to run em with just a pinch of end left. 3 resistance is the best way to slot it.
Temp invuln: your basic shield, 3 resists and 1 or 2 endreds, 1 will go but I have 2 in mine (well, I had like 10 slots that werent actually needed)
Invincibility: This one may have got you confused. No tohitbuffs? Well, the reason is pretty simple, it just isnt worth it. You'll only get about 1% acc buff with an enh there. And about 0.8% without one (per enemy that is) so I didnt find it worth to put one there.

Thanks a lot guys, some food for thought there.

Well you did confuse me with that one Avenger, but only because your build above DOES contain a ToHitBuff

Your build is quite similar to the defensive one I had in mind.

What are folks opinion on Crippling Axe Kick? I'm thinking of taking it mostly for the slow and -recharge, which would probably be handy versus tougher opponenets.

Crippling Axe Kick is a good power to fill out your attack chain till level 32 and Eagle's Claw. I took it at 18 and respecced it out at about 33. It does alright damage, but I really don't like the animation.

Whoops, I did change it to be an extra end reducer on unyielding instead but forgot to save it on hero planner :P

Hasten is definately worth getting your hitpoints and heals over time has improved alot. Your dps gets a boost and you do what you should be doing and thats damage. Scrappers should lead in Raw dps. MA puts together lovely attack chains. Be aware of how much acc you have to how much acc you need versus the levels you tend to fight. Ofcourse in PVP plenty of it is good.

I like what Unthing put tho, your about offense at the end of the day. MA is a single targetter mainly and doesnt cut through groups like the other sets can however the attack chains can so go together so fluidly and dragons tail is part of your defense whilst being offensive as you keep mobs of their feet.

On a scrapper that wants to just scrap id forget the fight pool...well maybe not on a regen.

The passives are meagre, tanks complain about it and theirs is greater and effects greater hitpoints. Tanks do gain better overall survivability from taking weave over the passives amongst herds and running in for an alpha, whilst missing out on secondary effects. However for a tanker id prefer my resistances versus an AV who has good acc ty very much.

Hasten on an Invuln is a take it...take it!!!

If you did a build without haste I wouldn't suggest to take it unless you were looking for something in particular. With SB your Dull pain if thats 3 rechg and 3 heal will be perma, so you could be perma dull pained. AM and AB also do it. Without a speed boost your not that far outside of it. So most of the time your running on high hitpoints.
