PvP Badge hunting + Little Girly Empath = Respec?

Hello everyone! It's that time again when Mystie needs a respec! I'm going for as many badges as possible now with her and there are a few tweeks I want to make. They're mostly to help me out a bit in PvP areas as I seem to keep being picked on by nasty brutes

Loved the last respec (clicky here to see old respec) but there are a few powers I'm thinking I could swap about...

The leadership powers - tactics and assault . Thinking about removing for Hasten and Superspeed . I think that Empaths don't need Hasten to function well... I actually spec'd it out and was happy with the results, but with one less attack power now (I'm removing Psy Tornado) I'll need it for PvP and gladiator badge hunting.

Flight - I will miss this alot, but I think Combat Jumping and Super Jump with Acrobatics is just far more helpful. (Additional point - I never use Hover or Air Superiority so I'm effectivly gaining a power there).

Teleport Friend - I'm going to also miss that, but I've not used it at all to be honest, so have replaced it with Stealth .

...and last but not least I've taken out Mass Hypnosis . It's never used, and I need the space for the 3 powers in the Leaping pool!

So as usual here's my new build... Let me know what you all think You were a great help the last time

Please remember I'm spec'ing for the badges I don't have, which seem to be mostly Gladiator and PvP area badges... I don't want to completely go PvP as I get most of my fun in missions helping all you cheeky monkeys with buffs!!

When you say PvP badge hunting, do you mean the rep badges or just things like the exploration badges? Assuming you're talking about actually PvPing, here are my thoughts.

Fortitude - Drop the ToHitBuffs and slot three recharges. The base ToHitBuff is good enough already, and it's much better to be able to fort more people on the team.

Adrenaline Boost - Personally I'd go 3 Recharge/2 Heal/1 End

I'd also try and fit acrobatics and super speed in earlier, preferably before 30 so you can use them in Sirens. And add more slots to Clear Mind (more recharge and some range) and Absorb Pain (another recharge or two) but that depends on if you want to drop any slots from your attacks.

I'm looking for as many badges as possible. The reason for the respec is that I'm finding myself being held alot in PvP areas, and it's making general PvP (mostly been playing in RV lately) pretty frustrating.

Absorb pain - no need for more slots it's not used that much, it's just a nice power to have. I'll see if I can fit acrobatics and SS in earlier... No need to slot CM either as it cycles round quick enough as it is. Especially with Hasten that I'm thinking of adding into the build.

Good point about the Fort. I'll take out a couple Tohit Buffs and swap them for Recharge Enhants

Not so much a comment on the two sets, I've played them, but not that enthusiastically, more comments on getting the badges on a Defender.

By far the hardest badges will be the rep badges, which I assume is what you're wanting a semi-PvP build for.

The easiest way to do this on a Defender is in a small (2-3 person) team. As such I'd slot Fortitude and AB with that in mind (make them good, rather than going overboard on recharge). You don't want to split the rep too many ways, and really anything more than three people in a team is overkill in most situations (you want to win, but you don't want to drive your enemies out the zone). If you can find someone else to play with regularly that is ideal, then just zone hop (you get no reputation for killing someone you've killed within the previous 10 minutes so for ease of doing this quickly, rotating between Sirens, Warburg, and RV is a good idea.)

Make sure your build exemps well to 30.

Pool powers:

As an empath, I would take Swift, Hurdle and Stamina, you have little use for Health.

Combat Jumping and Stealth are very low defence buffs, you'd be better off slotting hurdle and Combat Jumpting with 3 Jump Buffs (try this one test if you never have, it's extremely manouverable).

Another alternative if you really do like the fly/SS set up is to just make knockback protection in your SG base (assuming they have the facility to do that) prior to going in to PvP zones - it takes just a bit of salvage and lasts an hour and can't be knocked off. You need to carry break frees by the bucket load with or without Acrobatics, so that can be a good option if you're not planning on doing a lot of arena PvP (which so far as I'm aware gives no badges barring the gladiator ones).

Have fun.

Oh, good point on health there. Not much use on any squishy really, and even less useful for empaths. We have Healing Aura and Regen Aura for that.

Sadly, acrobatics won't be a huge help there. You'll still get held easily. That's really more useful for the knockback protection. Only advice I can give you there is to either a) pack a full tray of break frees whenever you go, or b) team with another empath (or sonic, or anything else with a mez protection power).

I use tp self and bfs or strength of wills. Get in trouble just bugger off in any direction at speed, if someone else is in need support then get to them at speed. I basically TP buff and TP or flyby buff with super speed and stealth. When it comes to attacking and defeating anyone well i just wouldnt bother, making the team better and being wherever needed is more of a priority especially as i get more fun from supporting people than fighting people. If ya get immobd, -jumped or -flied or -spd then ya still can tp.

Think twice about losing Flight and Tactics - they're pretty good protection from being poked by Stalkers. I didn't find Dominate to be of much use in PvP, even coupled with Telekinesis, so swapped Psionic mastery for Power mastery, with Psi secondary the addition of a buildup power is an absolute boon. I don't mind boasting that very often with regen aura up and Heal Aura firing regularly, I can send /Energy stalkers scurrying for the trees, and have actually managed to kill two without any outside help. Stealth is very handy, if you can fit it in. i couldn't, because I'm unwilling to drop stamina. I have the Fitness, Leaping, Speed and Leadership pools. Mine's not a pure PvP build, but I like to think it contributes well both there and in PvE.

Re: Getting held in PvP areas. There is just no easy answer to that other than carry a lot of break frees.

I generally play with another Defender (we're both Kinetic). We keep ID on each other probably as much as is realistically possible, which helps a bit with stuns from mele types. It doesn't really protect from controllers though, and it sure as hell doesn't do much against a dominator.

My normal inspiration tray to take to any PvP zone includes twelve break frees. The other 8 vary according to level of zone, the break frees never change. I use them pre-emptively to keep my toggles running when I go into a fight, and I leave the zone and buy more when I get down to a couple. That will generally last me about half an hour to an hour, depending on what's in there, although if I'm going up against multiple dominators that'll do me two fights with them, at best.

One other thing, as a defender you will probably find yourself being attacked first more often than not. It certainly keeps things interesting

Yup. You should be the first target of anyone trying to take out your team.

They do and I completely forgot about that!! That sounds a better option that respec'ing my whole build for acrobatics. That way I get to keep fly!!

[/ QUOTE ]

True, but with my re-think about now keeping fly, I'll keep health... even unslotted, it's still an extra 40% increase to my health bar, and as a certain overbearing supermarket says, 'Every Little Helps'.

[ QUOTE ]
so swapped Psionic mastery for Power mastery

[/ QUOTE ]

I have thought of that... Build Up looks great, but the Temp Innvun doesn't look as good as Mind Over Body in the Psy Epics. Also Total Focus looks quite powerful, but I think it's a close range attack, and I'd like to keep my distance if possible. Dominate doesn't always hold, no, but it's been successful once or twice, plus it's another ranged attack in the tray. Also, I've seen Mother's Love use Telekinesis alot lately and I remember it being really good against certain builds in PvP when I had it in a previous build.

I'll just whip up another batch of pancakes, seeing that it's pancake day!

Hey great advice and ideas guys I'll post a rethink of my build soon

drop the defence buffs in stealth and combat jump. Both have a very low base defence value, and they are hardly worth slottting for.

Power mastery is defo. a better choice than mind. PBU and regen aura = LOL. You have more regen than a regen scrapper using IH. And powerboosted fortitude is yummi for any blaster (2 Acc SO's alone isnt enough to hit through it).

Drop the slots in mental blast. Its hardly good enough.

A couple of slots in SJ for end red?

Range in heal other, absorb pain and clear mind. That way you can jump arround stealth far away from the main battle and still do your job.

An empath is prolly the most important toon on any team, and you wont have problem finding a team.

You can make a flying empath, but then you need stealth even more.

Phase Shift is an excelent choice for escape.
