There are RP SGs out there. Trust me. I have one toon that is a member of a bunch of complete reprobates called the Fletched Alliance, and a more entertaining group you couldn't wish to meet.
There are others. Lots of others.
Have you actually done much/any RP in CoH yet? If not, then I wholeheartedly recommend popping along to the Galaxy Girl meet, daily, 9pm UK time (currently taking place in the ski chalet in Pocket D during the Winter Event). It's a good place to meet some people and have a bit of lighthearted (or serious, depends on your tastes) RP.
Keep your eyes open for Red Commissar, GG's unofficial second statue and general meet-n-greet guy.

There's plenty of RP supergroups out there, and several in game locations where some of the servers RP'ers congregate.
These places are the statue of Galaxy Girl in Galaxy City, behind Freedom Court, but there's not that many there at the moment, because we're making as much use of the Pocket D ski chalet as possible at the moment. People are usually at Galaxy Girl from 9pm UK time, but things to bear in mind is that the text can flow quite fast, things can be missed and it can sometimes be hard to get into conversations.
The next place is Pocket D, either the heroes or villains side bars, or the dancefloor. There are usually people here throughout the evenings in character. Some of the points from above apply here.
There's also sometimes supergroup bases used for RP, other locations in game, or missions, it can be hard to find teams of RP'ers as just pick up groups, so Supergroups are the most likely entry to go for IC mission teaming.
Yeah, that all sounds like the sort of thing I'm after. I must admit, I haven't tried pocket D yet; I'd sort of assumed that it'd be the last place to find solid RP, but I guess I've been proved wrong there, and I think I've narrowly missed out on the fun at the Galaxy Girl statue a few evenings in a row too, so I'll have to make a note of showing up earlier next time.
But yeah, the idea of an RP supergroup was the one that really interested me. I've had enough other online RPGs with groups that I've either been a part of or run that focus on one extreme of PVE or PVP and doing too much of that too soon just ruins the game for me, so RP is now always my priority, and having a group dedicated to keeping it going wherever they are or whatever they do is just the perfect idea in my mind. Of course, constant RP is next to impossible, and in the end, as long as I can find a group of nice, competent and fun people who I happily RP outside of missions or work, then that'd be just fine too. It's just finding them that's proving to be the hard part so far. I've not had the luck of running into a single RPer in my travels so far, but that might have something to do with the fact I've only been playing for about a fortnight.

Well, I've been steadily learning the ropes on Union for the last few weeks and now I've decided I need to get my teeth into some RP. I've scoured the forums and keep hearing of Union as the unofficial roleplaying server but so far I've found smeg all myself. Soooo, now I'm out looking for a roleplaying supergroup. In Supergroup threads, the only interesting looking groups have posts from several months back, and I've not got the slightest clue whether they're still active or not. So I figure this is the next best way of finding what I'm looking for.
So, anyone have any suggestions? In the end, size doesn't make that much of a difference people wise or base wise: all I want is a decent, interesting and involving RP supergroup that will welcome a blaster still learning the tricks of the trade. That's about it really.
...this is assuming of course that there is an RP supergroup out there somewhere. If not, then oh well, I've only wasted about 3 minutes of my life typing...dammit...
