Speed boost or Increase density first

ID actually has a very decent resistance to smashing and energy as well as its other qualities. It's well worth putting on your tank before (s)he goes in if you are fighting mobs that do those damage types.

As for SB, I like to buff people just as they arrive at a train station then watch them run smack into the opposite wall. *chuckles*

Yep
can remember the reactions the first time I did that when one of the other team members noticed that I had stacked 12-14 of them on the tank. It does make a big difference at low levels because of how easy it is to stack and can certainly raise the mediocre resistances at those levels considerably.
There's basically 2 ways to apply it - single applications for the hold/kb res or high stacking to 1 or maybe 2 toons for the dam res - both have their uses depending on circumstances.
Similarly there's 2 different reasons to apply SB - in a mish to increase end recovery and recharge rate and outside for the movement speed increase - especially useful before lvl 14 to get the team across the Gulch.
I'd probably say that pre DOs ID is the more useful but much less so at later levels whem resistances are much higher. Also if you regularly team with a stome tank SB is pretty much a must as it counteracts the movement penalty of rooted and granite.
Whichever way you choose to go expect a lot of clicking. At least with ID when you're stacking it on the tank you can fire it off in the middle of a attack chain and it should hit the tank - if it hits someone else the tank isn't holding aggro well enough and you can expect to get a lot of it yourself - kins are huge aggro magnets - troller probably less so as many of the foes are likely to be locked down.

The resistance buff from ID doesn't stack with itself, only the status protection.

The only time I tend to stack it is on certain mob types that do particularly high mag stuns in large quantities (Malta tend to send my kinetic in to a buffing frenzy).

Regarding slots on speed boost, I've never found it needs more than a recharge, even teaming with a couple of dark scrappers, one of whom appeared to be trying to make the build with the most toggles ever.

I really wouldn't waste slots on it, enjoy it for what it is - one of the very few powers in the game that's good straight out the box.

As mentioned before I have drained my endurance completely with single-slotted SB on me, and quite easily I must say. My dark/dark stalker and my energy/invul brute are the most notable examples of this kind of super-drainers.
Of course, this only applies if you play like you always want to play as brute or kinetic: frickinĀ“ fast. The bigger the enemy spawns and the faster you get from spawn to spawn the easier it is to overcome single-slotted SB. With triple-slotted SB I never had to stop for even a second.

Have you checked this - the last time I read the description it specifically stated the only thing that didn't stack was the slow effect - of course it wouldn't be the first time the description was wrong.

1 end mod slotted is fine for some builds but absolutely not nearly enough for others. SB should always be at least 2 slotted with end mods preferably 3 slotted with end mods.

For PvP I would slot it 2 end mod, 2 range, 2 run speed though.

EDIT: Why would you slot a 2 second recharging power with recharges!?

As a mind/kin I find SB to be great and even though I have ID, I find I never use it.... probably cause I'm to busy faceplanting thinking I'm a tank ;o)))

TBH I find transference, transfusion and Fulcrum Shift to be the kinetic powers I most use....
