Can you be more specific?

"A super hero/cartoon kind of style"? What? like in colouring? Or in actual drawing?

If you're looking for something ask him. He is your friend. And this is what he tells me about your description.

If you're thinking about colouring drawings like they do in comics, dude, you got the wrong program
Because it's mostly selecting areas with the lasso tool...

If you got that amazing Painter soft, then you want to paint. Find life reference picture and draw from that.

I always found that if I have a style in mind, I'll look for actual pictures and/or artists who do it and I'll look at the picture and try to replicate it my own way.
Just a thought... ^^

Yeah well, more for the colouring, i have seen it done in painter 9.

The lasso, i just find that as a way of selecting an area without your brush interrupting any other area's, all you have to do is have your lineart layer selected to multiply, then work from your bottom layer and it doesnt disrupt the lines one bit.

Here..

And here.

And here.

I think the mistake people make with painter 9, and photoshop is this..

Photoshop isnt just for illustrating its for photo editing
Vector graphic designing, logo's etc.

People look at painter and think..its for painting using oils, watercolours etc, therefore it doesnt use the tools required for Comic colouring etc. just very realistic style
work.

to be honest swissy, for its price, its better for this kind of stuff, because it focuses just on 'ART' photoshop is £500 for a reason, and thats because its good in so many 'OTHER' ways..painted has it all for art, blenders, airbrushes, soft brushes, All the stuff you would need for all kinds of work.

Damn right, a lot of people overlook the functionality of the various design packages. I know a lot of Illustrator users are completely oblivious to the fact that Photoshop can produce vector work too, not just raster. Granted one program is made specifically for vector work, but thats not to say the other is useless for it. It just covers a wider array of application than the specialised package.

Indeed, alot of people make this mistake, and waste ALOT o money, and only use photoshop for art, while you can get a better art system for your needs, cheaper, and less confusing.

Ok, [censored], I'm going to be late for work but what the hey...

I will not deny/argue the differences of both programs. There was a thread about it started by Mother not so long ago. And for the record, I own and use both software btw.

But in these examples you supplied, what you seem to misunderstand is that, what you're looking for isn't a tutorial on how to colour in a superhero kind of style. You're looking for a way to draw the linart.

[Bloodwork V2] follows the basic and regular painting techniques. The same type that you would learn by painting your room or still life (light sources, casted shadow etc..) In [Bloodwork V2], only the lineart is comic-like
Same goes for [Kai - Commission] which has more of a manga styled lineart.

So let me repeat this. The examples supplied follow the fundamental rules of painting. Learn those and you will be able to then modify the way you want it to suit the certain tangeant style.

Side note: This has been made with Photoshop.
So you can achieve a semi painted look on Photoshop as well.

Start here

Look, analyse, replicate. ^^

Poo! Got to run.

Coston, hope this helps

Edit: Sorry if I'm coming on strong but from my experience of people I've interacted with on forums, the overwhelming general consensus is that comics/manga/etc.. are all altered and stylized forms of reality.

Swissy thank you.

That's a fantastic site - yet another site to add to the Art folder in Firefox!

Not problem.

Again, I was in a rush this morning and ended up taking a taxi to work.

Conceptart.org is a great site.

Didn't realise they'd updated DeviantART's design, really should check on the site more often but I have this habit of wanting to be more active on it and uploading a few new pieces, and then getting sidetracked and not adding any more for a few months. Then the whole process repeats itself.

...yep, a good four months of correspondance there I've not read yet, and a request for some video game icon work (fortunately that one was only from Oct 10th so I'm not too late in replying there). I really should pay more attention to the site.
