Inv/fire tank (need advice)
Haha! You're in luck. While you've been gone, I made myself an Inv/Fire and got it to 50!
I suspect not a lot has changed, frankly. Res is 90% cap, you need RPD, TI, and Tough to hit it for s/l damage.
Resist elements and energies are a matter of taste, good for AV's but not a lot of use besides. You're still tanking on Def rather than Res at high levels, so go with weave and don't be skipping tough hide. I like Aid Self, too, since DP takes an age to come round. Can post my current build, if you like.

but with what u said, it sounds like my build is still as good as it ever used to be.. lol
i thought with the updates it had caped def alot.. like at 3 slots etc.. but if its 90% then i think im fine
(just need to respec for sirens... didnt know about the lvl 30 exemp.. lol.. dont even have invincibility when exemped to 30.. haha)

Six slots doesn't work any more. Stuff is effectively capped at three SO's - so 3 SO's will give you 100% more damage, whereas 6 will give you 105% more. Not worth slotting more than 3 SO's of one type in anything.
This means stamina is less effective, so you may need to slot for more endurance reduction in AoE's like combustion and Fire Sword Circle.

ahhh ok well thats easy, im actually really happy about the 3 slot capped.. haha. those extra slots will help me ALOT with other stuff i hadnt planned to slot back in the day

It's got a lil less 'true' tank build than Wilfred's one, on this build I left some room for basic damage (build-up,6-slotted attacks).
I went for SJ as travel instead of SS+hurdle, and didn't get aid self.

I've got a couple of Hami-Os in there, hence the fewer slots in Invincibility (the Hami-O gives me end red, def buff and to-hit buff). I've plumped for 1 taunt duration in each of my attacks (save the epics, 'cos you're not allowed to slot them for taunts). I've also not taken build up, fire breath or fire sword. Reason being is: a) I'm not primarily a damage dealer (more a meat shield, but can do some fairly decent damage) b) ice blast compensates for not taking fire sword and I've got sands of mu from the veteran awards. These attacks keep me going just great (my attack chain, for the record is: incinerate, GFS, scorch, ice blast - and use the AoEs and my hold when it warrants it). I keep the whole mob focused on me (I was teamed earlier today with 2 defenders, a blaster and a scrapper and they weren't interested in anyone but me!)
My resistances (based on +3 SOs, and even level Hamo-os) are as follows:
89.6% for smashing/lethal
27.5 for cold, energy, negative energy, fire and toxic
0% for psionics
Running CJ and tough hide, that gives me a base defense of 5.3% (that's after the -5% that unyielding gives). From what I can gather, invincibility gives you 5% base defense plus 1.5% per bad guy in range up to a max of 10 bad guys (in essence, 20%). So you can get some decent defense if you've got bad guys in range - if you 2 or 3 slot it for defense buffs, you could probably see your defense rise to around 30% (if you've got tough hide and CJ running).
I didn't take weave, 'cos I find that with 30%(ish) defense and my resistances, I dodge a lot of the attacks thrown at me (thank GOD for dark defenders when there's a psionic around!!!) and weave's another toggle to run. It's got a base defense of 5% - so you may or may not want it in your build.
Lastly, I took the ice epic power pool because I wanted a hold, and I wanted a ranged attack. A hold is very useful when confronting things such as the dreaded Malta Sappers. Hit him with a hold, dispatch with him and move on to the rest of the mob. Ice blast is better than fire blast from the epic pool, too - it's more powerful and has the nice -spd and -recharge debuff. Plust it's got a SLIGHLY faster animation time over fire blast. And on the aesthetic side, it's nice to have another power-type OTHER than fire
At the end of the day, and I say this everytime I give my opinion on a character build, it's down to how YOU play your toon and what YOU feel comfortable with. I have ditched a couple of powers that some people like (i.e. build-up, fire sword). I've taken some powers that some people won't like (i.e. the ice epics). That's what I feel comfortable with, and make it work for ME. There's no right or wrong build - just because mine may be different to yours, doesn't make either one of them better.

The damage slot in your attacks stack with taunt slots so gauntlet being as low a duration as it is per attack your having a taunt slot in place of a damage is pretty much gaining nothing. For taunt duration each taunt maybe not much different to the damage and being of fire secondary which puts attack chains together really well for ST and AoE id really recommend having attacks 3 dam slotted instead of 2 dam 1 taunt. Being a damaging tank is a good thing because there is only so long you can survive in some mobs and this really does count when the defense set on the team has no real healing quality although they may do alot for -fight duration and/or soft control though. I would if i were you spare more slots to the actual secondary taunt itself for AVs but in typical mobs /fire is pretty good in itself so i'd maybe 2 rechgs for long distance spamming if needed and then work on getting 2 taunts in.

I can't remember exactly how I've slotted fire sword circle (or combustion for that matter) but with AoEs I tend to favour acc over damage as I build up slots, just to make sure I can actually hit as much of the spawn as possible. The first time I got combustion I hated it because I hadn't really got the whole thing about grabbing aggro. Now I love it as it may be low damage and a bit slow to fire off but it's a great attack for grabbing lots of aggro and not really worth slotting for damage IMO. Fire sword circle on the other hand is a good "grind 'em down" attack so a nice balance there is good.
All attacks have to hit to gauntlet so acc is a must.
All attacks reduce your endurance bar quicker than your toggles when chained so endurance is a must to keep from getting low on end too soon and to have additional attack chains to keep on gauntletting if we should so need it.
Damage or taunt or damage and taunt add to gauntlet, but damage reduces fight duration.
Recharge means you can gauntlet sooner and more often with the better attacks.
Think in terms of damage to a "group" of 10 foes and not to a single target.
Scorch has a BI base rate of 3.1667 damage to a group in one use because it hits 1.
Greater Fire Sword has a BI base rate of 9.555 damage to a group in one use because it hits 1 (good on a boss).
Combustion has a BI base rate of 36.112 damage to a group in one use because it hits 10.
Fire Sword Circle has a BI base rate of 57 damage to a group in one use (because it hits 10).
Now imagine dam slots in those attacks and watch the damage to a group between each one become alot wider. I like the heavy ST for the 1 in the group thats most dangerous and as many aoes as possible for everyone else but only consume with a base rechg of 180 wouldnt have me slotting for dmg over rechg as its poor dot and good +end.
The amount of damage you do to a group for the endurance cost is lovely and if everyone stacked their aoes on a group and were able to keep them stacked then would we need stamina? Not as much because the amount of damage we would be doing for the endurance cost is much nicer.
If ya aint trying to get atleast 10 around ya even when soloing ya not making full good use of ya tank imo except of course inv/that cant get aoe or cone attacks just yet.

ok well ive been out of the game for about a year now, and with all the updates i noticed that alot of def and attacks etc cap at lower limits
so i was wondering if some one could give me an idead of a good way to power (including power pools) and slot my lvl 50 inv/fire tank
even if u just help with one of my power sets, that would be alot of help
