Black Hole & PvP

I've been PvPing again (had taken a break post-I7). Happily, the hated toggle-dropping brawl has been sorted. But now I find myself too regularly being stunned and or held by blappers and tanks as their opening move.

I know the obvious tactic is to stay out of hand-to-hand, but these tend to surprisingly quick builds that seem to be able to run towards me and get off a hit before my opening shot, Fearsome Stare, takes effect, making it a bit difficult.

So I was thinking... Black Hole's a power that most /darks seem to avoid, but maybe it has use in PvP. After learning player A is a blapper (usually after being stunned and two-shot killed), next time our paths meet I phase him, giving me time to apply DN, drop TP and move off a bit, and him to waste a couple of shots.

Feasible, or should I just run?

Or is going for Acro a better bet? I know it helps with holds, but does it help with disorient?

Acrobatics has knockback resistance and a mag1 hold resist - it doesn't protect against any other status effect like disorient.

And I can't tell you what Black Hole is like because I skipped it as well on my /dark MM, mostly because every guide/forum I read said to skip it

Same here. I've read a few posts here and there that say it can be useful, but that it's highly situational. Just wondering if this situation would suite it.

Next lvl I choose a new power, so I'll try it out on test. Not sure how much pvp goes on there, though...

I took black hole on my lvl 37 corruptor, it almost always hits at least 3-4 in PvE, maybe it will put the blappers in thier place in pvp.

Actually on second thoughts I don't think you can affect a phased target in any way whatsoever. They can use self buffs/heals but can't affect anyone else, but in turn they are invulnerable and immune to debuffs like DN being applied.

I might be wrong, but if that's true then it means your blapper example won't work. They would come out of the phase just as ready to attack you as they were when you applied it (being phased/intangible doesn't drop toggles - I can confirm that from personal experience).

I think that's why nobody takes it, although if you were being attacked by two separate groups/individuals in PvP I guess you could phase one while you dealt with the other.

Hmm... It may be that I could use it to simply 'disuade' the blappers from coming after me (i.e., phase them, wait a few moments while they waste time trying to hit, then tp out).

But I guess the key is just to avoid contact with blappers whenever possible. If I see one coming, run. Hopefully I'll at least prove a distraction for other villains.

Another thought... what about Dark Pit?

I know the standard reply is that it sucks, but it could have the effect I'm looking for. I saw a few posts that refer to it as a 'squishy detoggler' in PvP, which would be perfect to stop a blasters, controllers and defenders.

But I tried it on test and it only seems to work on minions. Does it actually have an effect in PvP?

(And I actually found it pretty sweet in PvE. Better than FS since affected mobs don't fight back, and a better AoE since it's not a cone but target based).

Yup, it will stun any player who doesn't have stun protection.
