well, before the raids got bugged, this server was very active regarding raids. we got some of the biggest bases in the game here and the top VG/SG are very interested in raids. Latest bugs has put this off tho, wich sux. i really hope they would put as much effort into fixing the raids, as they did with the XP-bug, so that we could return to enjoy one of the absolute highlights of this game.
We also have a few very PvP-oriented SG/VG with great skills and dedication. was going to mention a few groups, but dont want to offend any1 by leaving them out 
I think the fact so many of the main PvP'ers from Defiant have now rolled toons on Union for a bit more PvP action says it all.
Certainly in the run up to I7, the PvP zones were packed to bursting point at times and a few events in Sirens were forcing second spawns of the zone due to the volume of players there
So basically, yeah they go on

It might be because villains is smaller (less fragmentation of sgs) which allows this to happen but communication between the main sgs is quite common allowing for greater ease of organising pvp events. Thus there is normally something going on - it was quite common for some pvp activities (arena/base) to be happening especially on a weekend.
Zone wise I cant comment about defiant (so no comparison) but it used to be quite busy here. I think they have quieten down due to everyone leveling the villains but I do think (in my opinion) that there are alot more people interested in pvp on union. As pointed out alot of defiant pvp'ers have migrated to this server so it cant be that bad .
Warburg has also hotted up - this is probably due to the RV Strike Force so alot more people going for nukes meaning alot more confrontations. To be honest I have been loving it in there and I think my stalker maybe one of the most hated right now
