Please do not ever use Flaming Pear plugins, ever.
I didn't. It was Eyecandy.
Just as bad, knew it was one of the two.
What are you running it in? Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro? Something else? If it's Photoshop you create much more realistic metallic surfaces without any plugin at all, it's always worth putting the time in to read a few tutorials on doing it without, saves a lot of time and produces far better results.
Tutorials are too much like instructions for my own personal tastes. I used to have Photoshop, but I only really used it for post-production video effects. Now I use a combination of Paint Shop Pro 7 and X.

I think that's a little unfair. You can do some (note some.. not alot and I wouldn certainly not advocate it being used too much) good things with Flaming Pear and Eyecandy plugins. Thing is, they are very situational.
I do think people disregard them too much now because a bunch of people got hold of them and used them for EVERY effect for EVERY website for a good few years.

Yep, but bear in mind they're a plugin with limitations to exactly what effects can be produced. Anything you can create in either of them can be exceeded by leaps and bounds if you're using something like Photoshop and take a little time with it, it's good if you're not that versed with the software or don't want to spend too much time on an effect but I personally wouldn't touch them as it's easy enough to do the same thing in two minutes with Photoshop's built-in functions.
What do you use for post-production, Fire?
Mah bruthas and sistas, I have a dream. A dream that makes me easily identifiable at the London Con on Saturday! I have a dream that one day (saturday, in fact) a man will not be judged by the content of his powersets, but by the colour of his t-shirt design!
Sadly, the paper I printed it out on is postcard sized, so people will only be able to see it's me up close.
