Crowd Control! Are you ok with how it works?

I'm not and i'll explain why, well in fact i'll try.

I always played video online games where PvP played a huge part. I started this online addiction with Asheron's Call back in 99-2000 on the server Darktide (the only PvP server and it was free for fall, good times..) then long years spent playing Dark Age of Camelot and like everyone i gave a World of Warcraft a try and was disapointed.

I'm now playing CoV since November, never got into CoH for the reason you may guess there was no PvP. Well so far you know what? I'm having fun in CoV for its PvE side not the PvP. No more uber loot, its very easy to get into, fastpaced, you can play it a few min before going to work and still achieve something (doing a mission and such).

I really want to give CoV a try for what is has to offer on the PvP department but the more and more i play in the PvP zones i feel like this game is going no where with it.

Crowd Control for one. There is one rule in most PvP games i played so far that remained basically the same. Your avatar may be "crowd controlled" by another player, ie rendered useless in battle but as soon as you take damage you will break free or wake up. This is true for most of crowd control powers, expection is the rooted kindof power. You will remain at the same place but you can still attack.

There's nothing more frustrating than not being able to control your character and still take damage. I hated how worked Fear in World of Warcraft and i hate how it works here aswell. Same thing for the Holds, i hate it because someone is baggin themself an easy kill with me held in an uncomfortable position and i can't even curse at him back.

Now of course, some you will say you have inspirations they are there for that purpose. Of course, but i don't feel exiting the zone every 2 min to buy full tray of break free. I believe this game need to be seriously reworked in the PvP department to be fun.

I may be wrong, perhaps there are a lot more players who enjoy the PvP in this game and are happy with the mechanics associated with it.

i understand where you're coming from, i rvr'd in daoc for a good while before giving the game up and playing this.

i know what you mean with the hold and death, the way i think of it is its easier to die and come back than carry laods of breakfrees, sure places like sirens make it easy because the maps smaller, but the bigger zones make it tougher.

in my limited experience of high level pvp its similar to daoc, your team either gets stonewalled because of skills mismatch or outnumbered, or it happens the other way round, you take them apart very fast.

i'd hazard a guess at that they cant do much about it really, its a core game mechanic how status control occurs, changing that would change everything.

however i suspect we wont really see real pvp balancing until we have a good group of level 50 villains to face off against the multitude of heroes.

I still think it'll be fast short fights happening, purely because of travel powers and the vast array of ranged and queueable powers, unlike daoc when the game was very much dominated by melee range attacks that you had to be in range of all the length of the attack and couldnt be queued.

I rememebr daoc had its fair share of ftw buttons on midgard healer characters, which when used could make 5 midgard easily take out 10 albs without breaking a sweat, so the crowd control in those cases were just too powerful (imho), although was still fun to play against
